There is the usual Expedia, etc to search hotel rooms, although not all are listed. There are some reasonable albeit basic hotels, many right near Playa Norte. And then sites such as Homeaway for private places. Prices really range depending on location, etc, but of course there is also not the same volume and competition so prices certainly reflect that. Also many are ocean front so you pay for that. We pay twice as much per week for a house on Isla as we do in PDC, ( although I get a great deal in PDC) hence less time in Isla. We share with friends so that helps, but if we had to foot the bill ourselves on Isla it would be a small apartment or a hotel for sure.
I was finding pricey options on Isla- I looked at all the usual suspects that you mentioned. We really like having a separate bedroom for some privacy and to let our daughter nap in peace.

To us, the beach in Playa was unusable many days in 2014, which is one reason we moved locations. Or we had to schlep all over with our daughter on our back to find a good beach. No thanks.

I'll try to find a picture of the worst day in PM in 2015, but to us the sargassum was a non-issue. A little bit is like a babysitter to a toddler- fascinating stuff in there. Gave mom and dad a chance to sit on our arses for a minute I know it's definitely been worse than what we experienced, but we're willing to take our chances next year.

We found Isla to be quite pricy for Mexico for sure, but I have to say that the beach at Playa Norte was amazing! The ferry ride to and from the island is really fun and if you sit up top there’s music, cervezas, and beautiful ocean. Would I go back to Isla? Probably not. It’s one of those places (for me anyway) that just didn’t give me that “I love this place” feeling. I won’t mention what I found to be the negatives as it would not be fair for my opinion to tarnish anyone’s expectations of the island
Puerto Morelos on the other hand is a fabulous vacation town. The beach is huge and not crowded at all which is a big plus for us. The prices are even better than Playa and restaurants are wonderful

A ferry starts and ends just about every trip for us, so taking a ferry on vacation isn't a huge draw...I'd like to check out Isla some day, though! Maybe a day trip when the munchkin's a bit older (if we're still coming to the area). With our lifestyle right now, PM is perfect for us. Did you guys ever eat in the colonia? We never made it there last year, but want to this year- suggestions welcome!

Loomis- I'm jealous of your month long trip! Someday...

I second the suggestions being welcome. This probably isn't the correct thread, but what are some of your favorite places to eat in PM. We are thinking of doing a few days in PM to see if we like it more, but we love to eat, so quality food options are a necessity.

I was thinking this probably isn't the best thread for this, either, but don't want to clog up the general thread with towns other than Playa.

Last year we LOVED breakfast at Nicho (the chocolate/espresso/chili drink is awesome) and loved the tacos at Tacos.com. Great chicken from the chicken lady and lots of fresh seafood- Ojo de Agua, Playita (cooked our fish for us), and Chayito. We also really enjoyed the pizza from My Little Italy. Oh, and I had the most amazing mole poblano enchiladas (for breakfast of all things) at the restaurant at Posada el Moro (sp?) hotel. We also took a class at the Little Mexican Cooking School and put our new skills to work by making a ceviche with our friends' fresh caught fish.

We live in Merida and will likely be here during those days. Get in touch, we'll show you around.

That would be great! I had actually though of sending you a PM closer to the date if I end up with any questions I can't find the answers to
