Wow, I am really behind on reading trip reports. I just stumbled on to yours and am sorry I missed it. I'm only up to page 7, but enjoying it very much. Great job and great pics!

Thanks!!

Gary- I just came across your trip report and absolutely loved it!
(geez, I haven't logged in for forever, but you definitely made me write.)
I've been telling others (and linking to you) saying this is maybe the best trip report I've ever read.... and I've read quite a few Gracias!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I can tell there are some links operating because the number of hits keeps climbing. I was unable to post a link to my facebook for my friends to see because there was some click jacking going on.
I know the report is a bit long winded but I think it demonstrates that there are a lot of places to go and things to see that are not on the mainstream tour circles. Some of them take a little looking for and many a morning started with no plan other then to make something happen.
I am returning in the first week in January 2017 for awhile to revisit some places and to explore some new ones and to cement friendships already started and to meet new local people. I am always open to suggestions and if you want to meet up somewhere in the backcountry then shoot me a line.

I'm so glad you get to return. I hope for another trip report. Your recounting of your travels reflects your experiential approach and are very enjoyable reads. I look forward to your travel as much as my own!

Just reread this whole trip report. It's -27 with the windchill so much too cold to go do anything. I enjoyed it just as much this time as the first time I read it. You went to so many of the same places as we did. I have never been much at staying put however, all 18 days this year are in Playa so I am a bit apprehensive. I always want to go everywhere and see everything. I am anxiously awaiting the first week of January, 2017 when you return to Mexico. Hopefully, we will have another outstanding trip report to follow. Safe travels!

I hear ya! Its -16 with the windchill here in south central B.C. and I'm wrapping up work for the season. I'm heading back down on Jan. 4th for another go round, and like you I find it hard to sit still when I'm there. I can't sit on the beach all day or even for an hour and revisiting places is OK the first time or two but..... there are always new places to go, and the road calls to me. I like having a few drinks now and then but I can do that up here, and drinking stops me from driving... so I can't sit in a bar all day.

I have been thinking about going again since I got back and sometimes I think its the only reason I work... to save to go back.
The plan as always is loose. I fly in to Cancun, I will take the ADO to PDC. I get the car the next day, same model as last year, a VW crossfox. The day after I leave for the central Yucatan, to Jose Maria Morelos my favorite little town to visit friends a few days and then I'm off to Campeche state to Champoton, the town on the Gulf Coast where I left off my southward sweep last year. From there I plan to continue southwestwards into Tabasco state, and Veracruz. Then I want to cut across the continent into Oaxaca and to the Pacific ocean. Afterwards will make a slow meandering return trip up through Chiapas. I have no timeframe and will just take each day as it comes. The Canadian dollar is better this year against the peso so it will be a little more economical to travel.
I am running solo again this year. Anyone that wants to meet up for awhile somewhere along the way just let me know. I don't bite, I pay my way, and am easy to be with.
I have been keeping up on the Spanish by studying every day a little bit and I am hoping that it will click in somehow this time. I would love to be even half fluent.
I will post up some travels and adventures, along the journey. It was fun to do and I felt like you guys were with me in a way, so I wasn't quite all alone.
Now I just have to think up a name for it.
Stay warm everyone.
