Opinions please/ Blue Bay Grand/ Reef Playacar

Just looking for opinions from anyone that has recently stayed at the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda or the Reef Club Playacar. Asking for someone who has never been to the Mayan before and doesn't have a big budget. How are the beaches, rooms, food? Need for water shoes? Is there any snorkeling at either one? Thanks in advance!

We haven't stayed at either of those, but just booked our 4th stay at the Allegro Playacar. We stayed there 3 times last year. It's in the same budget range and has an awesome beach.

Been to the Reef Playacar ten times now. My wife and I go twice a year. We like that the rooms all have their own outside entrance and don't give that "hotel hallway doors on ether side feel" rooms are cleaned once a day. Beds are a little on the hard side but we like that. A/C is cold All have patios with furniture. Will go back.

Beach is great, may be some seaweed but that has been going on for a while all over the Yucatan peninsula.
You can snorkel off of the beach but not much to see except sand.
If your feet are sensitive you may need water shoes going from room to beach, everything is concrete.

Food is adequate and tasty with good variety. Some redundancy but you wont find any all-inclusive that does not have some.
We like to wander out and have friends that live in playa so we don't consume all meals at the resort. All in all we like the food. Italian and Mexican restaurants are very good as well.

Bottom line is this is not the hotel exquisite. If you need beach bar service, don't go, If you are constantly needy and require special attention Don't go.
This is a budget hotel but the people are friendly and work hard.

Over the years we have made a lot of friends from hotel staff and they all make us feel as if we were family when we return.

Nothing is perfect we go and enjoy the ocean and make new friends. The resort population is a mixture of people from around the world.

Don't know about about the Blue Bay Esmeralda never been there.

Hope this has helped. Good Luck, Mark
