So we have decided to do AI again, but where?

so we have been juggling whether or not we wanted to stay at an AI or try something different. We have decided to do AI again, just for the mental vacation.

2 years ago We stayed at the Riu palace in playacar for our honeymoon. my opinion -

pros-
great pool and swim up bar
5-6 restaurants( the food was just ok)
great beach

cons-
food was just ok
rooms didnt get very cool
entertainment at this resort was pretty lame

this time we will be joined by another couple and we want to get a mix of everything.
but good food and drinks is a must....since that what you are really paying for.

new location should have:
1.good food and good drinks or at least good options
2. nice beach. it doesn't have to be THE BEST, but nice
3. pool with swim up bar. yes, we like to drink
3. verified AC that works
4. the closer to town the better so we can minimize taxi costs

Opinions welcome....it doesnt have to be the resorts i listed

I have been searching information since my husband and I want to travel this year to PlayaCar, we choose Hotel Aventura Mexicana because of the good reviews, but we havent been there.

i've stayed at Aventura Mexicana several times. haven't done their AI though. the food there is really good. clean, basic rooms and the hotel staff is super amazing. they don't have entertainment, but heck...it's in a great location to walk to many many places in town.

it's not on the beach...never said it was. i enjoy the pool there, but it's not a big resort...it's a hotel with the option to do AI. the bar is right beside the adult pool and they can serve you drinks.

i was mainly replying to AnthonyJackson.

It's a small hotel with a dumbed down AI option.
I do love the hotel, though.
It's not what you are looking for.

Close to town, but the beach is not the best = The Royal.
Better beach, further from town = VIM.

Combo of the two = Paradisus. Beach is not the VIM, closer to town.

Thumbs up

If you don't mind kids, we like staying at Sandos Playcar. Great pools even a swim up pool! They also have adults only pool and bars. Great food and many restaurants to choose from all inclusive. They have the best beach in Playacar! Check out their website.

Putting my vote in for the VIM. Just got back from there last week for the third time. The only other AI we've stayed at is the Excellence Riviera Maya, so not much experience, but we are already planning the VIM trip for next year.

Can't beat their pool, swim-up bars, pool-side entertainment (as well as outside pool entertainment), and the food. OMG the food. VIM has, I think, 7 restaurants. We only ever use probably three of them (the wife is picky), but man, are they good. I love the buffets, especially the breakfast buffets. Didn't use it this go-round, but the room service is good as well.

Wanna attach some pics, but having trouble with that.
