Best Restaurants Right Now?

Hi All,

We're heading back to Playa soon and since I no longer trust Trip Advisor reviews and rankings, wanted to check in with the Playa experts about restaurants. I know the restaurants are constantly opening and closing in Playa, so wanted to get some current info and opinions.

In your opinion, what are the best restaurants in Playa right now? Any great new restaurants that I might not be aware of?

Thanks and I promise, I will report back when I return.

I have no idea what you mean by best, and I kind of doubt anyone else does either, with the possible exception of your significant other, or other very close friends and relatives.

By "best" I mean, whatever is best in your opinion.

If you like El Fogon, you can avoid the Trip Advisor crowd that flocks there and go to Taco N Madre a few doors down (near the Fogon by Mega) and likely have a third of the restaurant to yourself. Also in the area is El Juardo; I'll take the huaraches there over Fogon any day.

Food is good, great views, at a higher price can be found at the Hyatt (I agree with Al). The walk from the entrance to restaurant itself is worth the high price on its own IMO.

If you like seafood, Hijos de Tostada is now on 5th (down by 38th). They used to have just a hole in the wall back on 25th.

The best pasta IMO is over in Cozumel at Alfredo di Roma in the Presidente hotel. Not a cheap place. But better than all of the pasta places I've had in and around 5th. Casa Sofia outside of Playacar would be where I'd go if I had to have pasta and didn't want to go to Cozumel.

Puerto Aventuras also has a number of decent small restaurants where you can watch dolphins. I don't really have a place in particular I'd recommend, but the area is a nice break from the crowds in Playa once in a while.

+1 for Casa Sophia for pasta. I was put on to that place last visit and it was very good.
I also really enjoy La Brocherie for rotisserie chicken and tasty desserts. Reasonably priced. 15th Ave entre 4 y 6

looking forward to trying Los Hijos de Tostada. we are staying at Las Terrazas, so it's super close to our condo.

Don Chendo. I think I'd eat there every day of the week if I only had a week to live!

We went to Don Chendo last year and although the pizza didn’t excite me the pasta totally blew me away… absolutely delicious ….they’re on 30th

Erik and Jan met us there this year. The food was all right, the company was great and Al and Stevie happened by and visited for a bit.

Drew, from what I have seen on my walks, you are more likely to have the whole restaurant to yourself.
Most of the locals are at Don Sirloin.

I had a great rib eye steak at 500 Gramos.....5th between 34th and 38th east side. 240 pesos came with fries or baked potato and grilled veggies or a salad. Cooked perfect. Most beers 35 p.

For Pizza, we have to go back to Sue's months of group taste tests, Romeo was up on that list if I recall. I like their pasta options as well.

I have to throw Aguachiles in there as well, never had a bad meal there, last time Lisa had a 1/2 dozen tempura oysters that really amazing.
