Safety in Playa Del Carmen - General

Hi everyone, I'm aware that Playa and pretty much the whole Yucatan peninsula is far safer than other parts of Mexico. I would just like to know about the burglaries and all in Playa. Is this quite common? Has it ever happened to someone in a residential or gated community?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Robberies happen everywhere.
Break-ins and especially stolen bikes.
There is an epidemic of stolen bikes going on.
I still feel very safe here.
My seven dogs are a good deterrent to break-ins

yes your bang on,,,,,HEY i heard a few years ago someone chained their bike to a tree in the middle of the day, later went out and someone cut the tree down, took the bike,,,was that you ? i always wanted to ask if that story was true,,,

ive always told people,,,take your bike and put it under your bed and chain it to your ankle while you sleep, and there is 50-50 chance youll still have it in the morning....as long as its under your bed

I still wish I could find the picture you posted - here somewhere 2 years ago - of my former bike that you managed to tie up outside of your balcony on the third floor, that was the safest place ever, haha. 3 bikes later, Iīm done with bikes in this town.
last one was taken with about 7 others in the building last high season. mine didnīt have a handlebar and a flat tire.??? sold my heart to the junkman or what?

a) thatīs true.
b) I was drunk when you told me that at luna blue many moons ago, so i was not sure, if it was real you who told me.
c) itīs a great story, of course in my retold story the tree got much bigger over the years.

... there use to be a giant tree right outside the luna blue long before there was a street, what do i say a village, it was the center tree of the mayan jungle, the tree was there before the americas were discovered and one day around 2008 or 9 ...

you were so drunk and I was so drunker you walked me home the few blocks.
must have been a monday night. I remember waking up with chicken bones on the mattress the next morning.
you are a true strong fellow to hold that bike with one hand while tieing it up with the other after all we drank. I would have dropped it, no doubt. hopefully right into the pool.

sorry we kind of got off there a bit, but yes there are alot of breakins in playa, but mostly just thefts of money jewelry and things that plug in, alot happen at night, some in the daytimes, but yes they do happen alot in playa. I always say if it costs more than 20 bucks , dont take it to mexico. now i dont want to paint playa in a bad light, but it does happen there....
