Opinions on the ecological demise of Playa

I've been on here long enough to know I will be bombarded with naysayers, and that's fine. However, I am not reporting this per se, I am sharing it to see if others agree/disagree with this article. As for me, I have very serious concerns, and I think they are justified. I have witnessed many of the things seen in the video associated with this article. I post this because i truly LOVE & CARE about PDC and the future of this beautiful place.

I don't think there will be any naysayers, tbh.

We first spent a few months in Playa in 2010 and we fell in love with it. We since visit as often as we (financially) can.
I now know we have to come to terms with the huge and negative environmental changes that happened even in the short period since then.
All I can hope is that money and corruption will not be the ones to win.

I live in a part of Canada where for 6 moths a year everything is dead.
Cold, windy, dirty and dead. People are depressed, angry and sick. Which is why Playa was always a lifeline for us.

Playa is incredibly beautiful and full of life year round even with its infrastructure (and other) shortcomings, I hope it will continue to retain at least part of that "magic".

Much has been said on this topic both here and elsewhere. I challenge you to tell me though, where has man stood that most of the same things could not be said?

I do my best to keep Google software off my devices, but I can read it in Spanish, Portuguese or English, if I cared to.

Holy sh**!
Where you go, there you are, I guess.
Sure glad I am not that dependent on weather to determine my moods. I'd be screwed living where I do!

Corruption and greed combined with unchecked rampant growth and few laws and rules (or at least ones that are followed) will always result in a bad outcome for any populated area. I hope they get a handle on things in time to reverse much of the damage that has been done. Cutting down the mangroves....

It's not just the weather, that's just the (radioactive) cherry on top..

Google Chrome. It's a browser with built-in (albeit imperfect) translation.

OOPS - I should have finished the thread. I see someone already responded to this.

AS for the original purpose of this thread, I was just wondering how many people might offer any personal experiences about the alleged demise. What made me look into this again is that I was recently at 38th and the beach - next to the Mahekal Beach Resort - and the smell was unbearable. What concerned me about this is the last 4 times we have ben to this same place, it just reeked so much that we refused to stay in the area. We were there before Mahekal was remodeled, we were in the area 2 different times during the remodel, and were there again a few weeks ago after the remodel and it just smells awful. I am not blaming them, I am just trying to give people a time frame and exact location of where we have consistently experienced that awful poop/sewer smell.

Has anyone else been in that specific area and noticed it?

The smell was there long before Mahekal was Mahekal.

If it rains, pull up a chair on 5th between 38th & 40th and watch the liquid pouring up and out of the man-hole cover. You will smell something.
