Computer Monitor

Few days ago I had a power outage for a short while. Nothing unusual since that is pretty normal around here ever since i been here. Except my computer monitor no longer turned on anymore while everything else turned back on. Went to pc depot and was recommended to go to Lasser because they are very good at fixing tvs/monitors and pc depot didn't fix monitors. Dropped it off there at Lasser and after few days i was told they cannot fix it, the board is broken. They said not possible to fix it.

Does anyone know where i can get a monitor here that is 1920 x 1200 resolution. Jimmy here helped me get one last year when he came here which i was very appreciate of him bringing it from the us. Monitor worked perfectly ever since i got it. I will most likely be in playa for not that much longer from the looks of things. But i cannot do things without a monitor here. Does anyone know where i can get this type of monitor or it isn't possible? I will head to office depot again to take a look but from all the times i been there, pretty sure i never saw one there. They might have had 1920x1080 resolution but no 1920x1200 resolution.

I checked online and typed in this monitor and mexico and i came up with this

http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/..._JM?source=gps

https://www.abasteo.mx/index.php?cl=...FZZZhgod2LoAzA

The first one is very nice as its a dell. The 2nd one looks similar to the one i have now that is no longer working. Can someone tell me if these are online shopping? Could i actually go there and buy it at the store? Also i was told that Liverpool has a lot of nice items there. Do they have computer monitors? The other thing is when my rice cooker broke, someone here recommended loqsea where they go to costco once a week to buy things and you could buy it and then bring it to you and thats how i got my rice cooker which is very nice. Someone here mentioned they were at costco and saw there was a rice cooker and took a picture of it and posted here... so then i posted those details in my order and was able to get it.

Does anyone know if Costco in cancun has monitors? But the thing is i need the 1920x1200 resolution monitor. Of course if this happened in the us and i cant fix the monitor, i would order it on amazon and it would be shipped within a few days. Also im curious but who here has had their electronics whether its their tv, computer, monitor, ac or refridgerator or anything else that broke due to a power outage. I had so many power outages here in playa though most of it was usually a few minutes... but of course this one destroyed my monitor.

Get yourself a good surge protector, it was probably a voltage spike that killed your monitor when the power came back on.

Hmm. This has all the makings of a whole 'nother thread for 'surge protectors'.

okay i like to comment on this. I haven't had many types of power outages before i came to mexico. The amount of power outages i had here in mexico is already more than in the us. i also believe i never used a surge protector before, thus used nothing more than a power strip. I didn't even know what a surge protector was since i never had these issues and didn't think much that sticking electronic to a wall outlet was not a good idea.

i got a surge protector from walmart about 600 joules. The other ones seem to be less joules so i got the higher one which i believe is good and took the power strip off.

I'm curious who here has had electronics damaged/broken here in mexico from these electric outages.

yes i took a look at amazon mexico already.

I logged into with my amazon usa account and it works. However, everything is in spanish.

I tried adding the items but apparently the shipping time for these are very long? It takes over 1 month or so?

https://www.amazon.com.mx/Samsung-S2...x+1200+monitor

https://www.amazon.com.mx/NEC-MultiS...x+1200+monitor

Does anyone know about this i posted before?

Monitor Led 24 Pulgadas Dell 698813155 U2412m 1920x1200 +c+ - $ 6,059.00 en Mercado Libre

Is there any place that i can go and buy the monitor myself? I can just imagine ordering a monitor online and then it takes weeks at least for it to come. Basically i cannot do anything at all without a monitor. If they have it at costco, obviously i would just do the loqsea but i have no idea if they have it or not.

Does anyone here have a mercadolibre account?

I took a look and it seems to be an online marketplace with many vendors from different parts of mexico. So these monitors and items are new or are they used? The one i put the link to seem to be new. I don't even care if any monitor is used as long as it works. And how does payment even work for this? I see they accept banamex, bancomer or oxxo so you just pay cash there to that person that way to their account number? Be much easier if i could just pay via amazon with my us credit card or paypal But with loqsea i ordered my rice cooker and paid cash when the guy came so that easy.

Also how long would it even take to ship it? And of course im sure they going to make a mistake when shipping here since well i have no mailbox then the monitor will be somewhere that i dont know where.

Look for items on Amazon without the tag 'Importacion', those should deliver faster.

Surprised but I see Best Buy in Mexico now too and they'll deliver throughout the country pretty quickly: https://www.bestbuy.com.mx

Why not go to Office Max near Hospiten or the fake Apple store at the mall in centro?

Here's a Dell monitor in that resolution that is really good quality (I used to use one) La tienda en línea de Dell. Construya su propio sistema

Pauly,

According to my records, it appears that I brought you an AOC 23" monitor on or about January 24, 2015. I only buy monitors with a 3yr warranty which means it should have a full year remaining.

Send me the Make, Model and Serial Number so can verify it and match it up with my purchase invoice. Doesn't help you right this moment, but probably be nice to have a spare.

Jimmy

When most of you say amazon, do you mean Amazon.com or amazon.mx? Almost all the 1920x1200 monitors in amazon.mx have the word importacion. If you order from amazon mexico, are these items being shipped from mexico? Or only if it doesn't have that word importacion?

I can take a look at office max. I never went there before. I checked online office max and they dont have 1920 x 1200 monitor so i dont think they have it there but i can take a look. The apple store in the mall, I dont believe they would have the 1920 x 1200 monitor. PC depot i saw had an imac monitor but its 1920 x 1080 resolution. Those monitors are also very expensive as well.

Basically its really hard to find this type of monitor. 1920 x 1080 resolution is already hard... 1920 x 1200 i have never seen a monitor like this anywhere. I guess you can say its like a rice cooker. Basically you won't find a rice cooker if you try to look for one here unless someone here owns one or you buy it at costco which of course isn't even in playa and you need to use loqsea.com.

I checked that best buy site. They have monitor but not the 1920 x 1200.

So if anyone knows where i can find one, i like to know. But that site mercadolibre is what im interested in because i do see a few monitors that have this 1920 x 1200 resolution. There is one Dell and there is actually one that seems to be very similar to the one i have. Thus if its something like create an account, then pay by going to the bank or oxxo and paying to that persions bank account, then they ship it to me in few days, then yes that is what i like. Does anyone have an account at that site?

But of course i prefer to go to a store that has this type of monitor then i buy it then take a cab back to my apartment etc as i would prefer this as oppose to them shipping it to me where i have no clue where it is.

Pauly, when you say that you can't understand a site cause it's in Spanish, please tell me that you're giving it the ol' Google try and letting Chrome auto-tranalate it for you right?

I didn't look THAT closely, but it appeared that some of those monitors could deliver by Friday. At least it claimed that.

And off-topic: It seems like every time JimmyMN appears in a thread, he's doing someone a huge favor. If I ever see you in PDC, first dozen beers are on me. And if you are ever in NYC, look me up, as I have a long list of chores that aren't gonna do themselves.

Pauley,

Did a lookup on your Asus VS24AH-P; It was purchased from Amazon on January 15, 2015 and does indeed have a 3yr warranty. Apparently, they expedite a pre-ship box to individuals with a US or Canada address. That model currently sells for $215-US. Difficult to readily find 1900 x 1200 monitors, even here in the US. There are monitors that have even higher resolution but if you see one from Auria, look the other way.

As for surge protectors, I can vouch for their effectiveness. On servers, I plug them into a surge protected UPS for double protection. When they do work, the surge protector becomes a casualty but the expensive equipment that's plugged into them is almost always saved.

AndyW... I always try to help someone out whenever I can, especially when it relates to technology. Keeping current is definitely my greatest challenge with the accelerated pace in my field. It's always a delight to share the knowledge, especially over a cold one.

Jimmy
