Weather in March

How is the weather in mid March, typically? Are the ocean and pools on the warm or chilly side?

March is when it starts seriously warming up here and folks who are acclimated start getting back into their swimming pools. A little cooler but more humid in Playa most of the time

Had not considered that it might be spring break. When I think of spring break, the vision I have in mind is of beaches overrun with drunk college students who are off the leash. I was one of those, long ago and far away and I don't begrudge them their fun. Just not sure I want to be in the middle of it at this stage. For anyone who is familiar with Panama City Beach, FL, is it a similar vibe in PDC during spring break, which is basically madness.
I would love to visit in May, but the reality is that we have a week off mid March bc of partners work schedule. Being able to enjoy the ocean and pool is top priority, so I do have a curiosity about water temps, beyond average daily air temps.

Our only March experience was this past March. It was warm, but windy. I think I read a post by Rissask that March is the windiest month, but that was the month my sister's family had spring break - we went with it. It was great to not be sweltering hot and even the slightly built 9 yo could boogie board. For the totally calm, typical tourist water we went to Akumal for a day.

Just my experience in March 2016 - things change.

No, happily.

You'll approximate that a bit more, perhaps, at a large AI resort.

You'll get much closer to it in Cancún, however.

We have gone to Playa for about the last 5 Marches and the weather is great, maybe 1 or 2 days of rain in a 3 week period, have never needed a jacket at night, some people say they do. Never noticed spring break to be a problem, that is a Cancun thing. Ocean was always fine, except for 2015 with the Sargasso. If that's spelt right.

Pools will be a little cooler, ocean as much as 3 or 4 degrees cooler than mid-May, but also might be the same temperature.

As alwaysmissinpdc said, much more likely to have windy days, (from the north), and more windy days in a row

Agreed. I'd be much concerned about obnoxious behavior during Semana Santa.

I'm not sure where I read that...but ime from past trips, March is usually very windy.

This thread is funny- I just yesterday booked flights to CUN, March 12-21....$400 each, direct nonstop from my city- I couldn't resist.

I never even thought of the whole spring break thing. It's true Easter is WAY worse though!

I'm flexible though, and wondering where two places I should look at booking for the quietest and most laid back, relaxing experience....likely not Isla Mujeres anymore. Maybe combo of a quieter area of Playa and Holbox? Puerto Aventuras? Akumal area? anyone have any suggestions?
