food time

While in the Progresso area we took advantage of our BBQ as well as eating out at a few local seafood restaurants that see very little tourists. Below are my world famous mini burgers and a restaurant we found in the middle of nowhere on the gulf... On our last night our hosts prepared a last supper feast for us, we had invited friends but illness kept them away... so we aked our hosts to join us.

BBQ Burgers pool side

I forget the name of this restaurant but we had a great meal served by the very friendly owner while watching the sun set

Nancy had gotten my cold by this point so not many pics of her for a few days,
this was me just down from our supper table as the sun was setting

Our last supper back at our digs with our hosts Ben and Julie (I think, bad with names)

So now we are off to PDC for our last couple of days... Colectivo to Progresso, 3rd class bus to Merida then1st class to cancun and eventualy back to PDC for Beers on the beach

Nancy here ... yup you got the names right. Ben and Julie are awesome hosts and Julie's feast was delicious! Since we were there last year, they have built next door. I believe it is two apartments which look beautiful and you just cannot beat their price.

Thanks Gary D for your input of photos and videos.....love them!

Chelem/Progresso

Before I get into our last days in PDC here ore some additional pics of our rental in Chelem along with a few random shots of Progresso. Ben and Julie are incredible hosts, they have made a little piece of paradise in the jungle

A couple pics of the Progresso waterfront

The beach at Progresso can be very windy with murky water full of seaweed one day then calm and clear the next.

Pdc

So after 2 weeks of hard traveling we were finally back in PDC for our last few nights. After so many years of visiting Playa del Carmen we never get bored of it and love seeing the changes... My first trip to PDC was from Cancun in 1985 and back then it was just a small village mostly used as a transport hub to Cozumel, population maybe 500. Nancy and I returned in 2006 (I think) after many other trips south, for a change in pace and ended up fall in love with everything Playa. We have been returning most years ever since.

We found a cheap place across the highway off of Av Benito Juarez for a few nights and found it very relaxing. There was a common kitchen for all visitors to use and a nice garden area to relax by the pool. Dont remember the name... oops

First stop, beers on the beach, a short public bus ride away... then off to our favorite glass shop to add to our collection (they have moved since) before going for lunch

Glass shop, we never leave empty handed...

We decided to go back to a place we call "No Name Taco" on Juarez and 45th? we had good food in the past but were not impressed this time

Then it was 5th ave walk time (no need to post pics), some beach lounging and a wobbly walk back in the dark... We came across a very cool, but spooky park in the middle of nowhere, all lit up and open all hours... with a few beers in us we decided what the heck and set off to explore... will post pics in next installment. Then we found an all night little taco place up north that will always be our best ever tacos pastor... way cheap and soooo good, pics to follow

Last night

So after a fantastic last day of wandering playa, beach time and last minute shopping it was time to walk back across the Highway to pack and get ready for the flight home. On our, and after a few wrong turns on my "short cut" We stumbled across this park all lit up with trails. We did not know exactly what it was for, and were the only people walking around the site, was very unusual, almost spooky

the park was quite large, we got turned around and ended up exiting on a completely different street... after finding our way back to Juarez once again we came across a fantastic little Taco place and decided to give it a try... Best Taco pastor ever and so cheap!

THE END!!!

Hope you enjoyed our trip report

Happy Travels

Gary & Nancy
