12 Day S. Caribbean Cruise

Sandy and I just got back from a 12 day cruise on Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas. It is one of the mega cruise ships.

Wonderful cruise with good friends.

Ports visited were:
San Juan
Antigua
St Maarten
Martinique
Barbados
St Kitts

Hang in there and we'll ramble through the cruise!

Did you go to the nude beaches on St Maarten?

Day 1:
Friends picked us up for a 2.5 hr drive to Bayonne, NJ. Weather was for crap so it made for a sporting drive up.
We made it to the pier and were on board by 12:30. Wow what a ship!

More Ship (you've only seen a little bit!)

Day one at Sea was a bit rocky as we hit the storm that blanketed the N. East in snow Last Wed. I didn't think it was all that bad. But, others in the crowd said otherwise.

We had reservations to do the iFly Ripcord Skydiving Simulator. But, the rocking of the ship made them reschedule us for the next day. Instead, we took part in the Progressive Trivia and the Battle of the Sexes Trivia.

Day two was much calmer and we got the skydiving in

Stand in the door

Lean into the wind

And FLY!

Day 3 was arrival into Old San Juan

We've been there several times and are only in port for a few hours. So, a quick walk up to the old fort and then back on the ship for dinner

I did manage to capture a pretty cool pic of the moon over Old San Juan

And a couple shots of the ship in port

Day 4 was Antigua. IMHO, they can keep this island. We did not stay off the ship long. Locals are very aggressive trying to sell.

And for some reason, people took issue with my Babin Suit!

Day 5 was St Maarten.

We've always enjoyed this port. But, this time, our friends got suckered into getting chairs and an umbrella on the port beach, by the first guy they came to. After fighting with the guy for about 45 mins, we finally got the chairs and umbrellas he promised. Not a good start!

There were several ships in port, You can see how we dwarf them

After the beach, we had lunch and our friends started their search for a diamond ring.

Day 7 was Martinique

A beautiful island. But not many accessible beaches. So again, just wandered the port a bit.

Day 8 was Barbados

We took a cab over to a magnificent beach club called Harbor Lights.

Day 9 was St Kitts

We took an excursion to a beach on the far side of the island called Cockleshell Bay.

Coming in to port, I captured the sunrise over Nevis.

Days 10/11/12 were all at sea days heading home. Smooth sailing and pleasant temps the entire way.

I captured this moon shot off of our balcony

On the last day, we had an announcement that a fellow passenger had fallen ill and gone into Diabetic Shock. We changed course toward Norfolk Virginia and a Coast Guard helicopter met us to evacuate the passenger. They made it all look very routine. I have much respect for their professionalism!

All in all a very fun trip and although I was worried that I would be tossing passengers overboard by day 9, the trip went very fast and I was wishing I had more time!

Sorry I didn't have more pics of the islands. But, this was more a relaxation cruise than anything.

Wow, that was a FUN trip report!!! I have never EVER seen a ship that big...we have cruised Royal Caribbean in the past, but not in several years, probably 15 or so, and man, the ships were nothing like that back in the day.

Now we are sticking to river cruises, since we've done most of the ocean places they go anyhow, other than the Mediterranean.

Looks like you had a wonderful time, thanks for sharing your photos. 12 days is a good amount of time to be able to wind down and relax, for sure...

That would be Orient Beach on the French side. No, we didn't make it there. There is truth in the adage that there are some people that should not be seen nekkid!!!
