Riu Yucatan or Royalton Riviera Cancun?

Looking at these 2 resorts for a family of 5, kids are 14,14 and 16. We are familiar with the Riu Yucatan area, we have stayed at the Iberostar Tucan and Sandos Playacar before.

Any thoughts or reviews on the Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa? We are beach people. The cost is identical for both resorts.

Thank you

The Royalton is a newer, more upscale resort with better quality food. However, the beach is better in Playacar and no timeshare sales at Riu.

We went with the Riu since we know the area, we have connecting rooms.
