I'm just glad to know that if things go really bad for me in my retirement, there is a job opportunity that does not require much Spanish, let's me work at the beach and does not involve waiting on turista's...

I'm sure there are some lazier workers around and someone will comment on that. But we're amazed at how hard - and long - many of these guys and gals work, especially those employed by resorts like Secrets. And for the pay on top of that.
Different culture and circumstances of course, but can you imagine young people from the US having that ambition and work ethic? Too general, but too true...

That's nonsense.

Btw, glad to see that all the libs here agree that paying people more than minimum wage for entry level (McDonalds, etc) jobs is a bunch of BS since there's no disgrace in doing any job and doing it well and always a sense of pride and dignity.

When I go to a developed part of the beach, I want a beach with minimal seaweed on the sand and in the water.

When I go to a developed resort in the woods, I want the leaves to be picked up and removed on a regular basis.

My preference is that they be composted and put to good use, but mostly I want then away from me.

If I am in a undeveloped place, then, whatever.

Nonsense is expecting tourism $$$ to continue to flow when there is no maintenance on those beaches...

Maintenance on those beaches.

Hmmm.

I didn't know beaches needed maintenance. Do valleys, mountains, plains, prairies, fields, desert..... should I go on? Also need 'maintenance'?

My point is, this shit is silly, and people need to adapt. Do I feel leaves need to be raked up? Hell no.

Garbage???

YES!!!

Yes, they do. That is one reason there are so many Forest Service and National Park employees who have careers doing exactly that.

Do tell, what proportion of their time is spent raking, collecting, shoveling, moving and disposing of natural materials found in the environment, as opposed to picking up trash?

So, you are not denying that there are significant resources used to maintain natural and park areas.

If you want to argue about what relative amounts of time are used for different types of maintenance activities, find someone else. I am not going into that pit with you.

Sogno is just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Which still makes everything he's saying total nonsense.
