Policy Debate and Discussion

A thread to discuss and debate policies and interesting political issues sin politicial hackery and conspiracy theories. Let's try and stick to the issues, pro/con/indifferent.

First up. Tax cuts for everyone, including big business. For or against? Does it happen this year? Best guess on final corporate rate coming out of Congress/Senate negotiations?

I think I may wait until we have a proposal from the Trump administration, some legislative language and then a score by CBO, the Tax Foundation and the Tax Policy Center.

It is too early, IMO, to talk about what comes out of a conference committee since there is nothing in front of either the House or the Senate yet.

I am more than willing, though, to repeat my position in favor (conceptually) of a bill allowing the repatriation of profits held overseas for a tax rate of between 5% and 10% during a time-limited tax holiday.

Differing infrastructure plans

Both are kind of laid out in this article, one by Trump and one by Progressives

Progressive lawmakers lay out alternative infrastructure plan

Y'all could help PDS2 and talk about the President's budget or something

I think this is a worthy thread and I hope it gets some participation

I think it's a foregone conclusion that his budget is not worth the paper it's printed on and will not pass any vote.

I am all for infrastructure improvements as long as they are for the right reasons. I do not agree with the idea of infrastructure as social justice. Fix roads, bridges, power plants, dams, etc. Do not use the jobs for political patronage and do not pay ridiculously high, artificial wages. I am not opposed to the idea of privatization of some of the work, such as toll roads. Private investment is always good.

Does this ruling apply to religious adoption agencies? If it does, that is unconstitutional to force them to act against the teachings of their religion. Activist judges and the ACLU working together to oppress their political opposition.

I hardly think that the Nebraska Supreme Court is full of activist judges

Ronaldo, I hate to break it to you bro, but you cashed in your chips on your reputation with your erroneous predictions and flawed analysis during last year´s election. So you probably aren´t the one to tell others their reputation is not very good. Your reputation is shot, time to start rebuilding.

Yeah....I tried that in a thread a while back. As you can see, it doesn't take long to go off the rails.

Paris Accords: In or Out?

I don't believe that man has much of an effect on climate (I believe our ego lets us believe that we can) but I think we should probably stick with the Paris Accords for a couple of reasons.
1. It is probably better for trade issues
2. The penalties for not complying are so weak as to not even matter.

One question that those who believe this is life or death must ask is how one man is able to take us out of the deal? How did that happen? Rhetorical questions because I already know the answer.
