Child Care Questions

Ok I'm actually coming from USA, where I live, and my mother who's turning 60 is meeting me from Europe. I have two kids, a four year old son and a 1 year old daughter. My son is pretty easy, my daughter is good if I'm not there (otherwise major separation anxiety). We actually are going to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday but frankly I also am considering a move. I speak 11 languages, hate SW USA and my husband speaks a few too and my Spanish is indistinguishable from a Puerto Rican so I'm also going to check things out.

My issue-everything is really affordable but these agencies charge a fortune for childcare. I'm looking for a live-in or daily for 17 days. They want double what our sitter WITH A MASTERS IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION charges here in USA. Our rental will have cost less. Any local expats have advice? I'm also open to sending my son to a camp or school while there.
