I will definitely miss the TB, just seeing it when walking down Fifth was sort of comforting somehow, a reminder of old Playa. BF and I actually had a pretty good breakfast there just this past March, I think it was the first time I had been a customer there in well over a decade.

I too remember way back to my first trips to Playa...it certainly wasn't any 'small fishing village' then either, though. Just a much smaller city than it is today, without any tall buildings or malls. Days at Mamitas, evenings at Captain Tutix, beach fire show at the Parrot, snorkeling at Akumal without hordes of tour groups and coral that was still in decent shape and loads of turtles....oh and I remember the old Zubul (spelling ) beach club and how lovely that beach was up there then.

Disclaimer-before any of the boys get bent out of shape here, I am neither criticizing, lamenting and bemoaning 'the loss of old Playa', nor am I being defensive or think all the changes are totally great....life is full of greys, after all, there are pluses and minuses to all the changes.

Playa is not in my top three of favourite places to stay in Mexico today, but that does not mean I won't still visit once every couple years. When I want a less chill and relaxing vacation, Playa is a great choice for a few days of shopping/eating/people-watching.

I have a shot glass that I found in the ruble and remains of Zubil after it was decimated by the hurricane. Was a cool place to hang out by the beach.

I was wondering where all of the police trucks and an ambulance were racing to last night as I was out walking.

Apparently a shooting at Tequila Barrel. That's the word on the street. Friend whose mom is a cop here.

According to her, it happened at Tequila Barrel.

Wow! I hope this place doesn't turn in to Acapulco.

Long live PDC!!!

Great pictures! A little too rustic for me,maybe in between today's playa and then. Too bad we could not stop time to what suited us. Upset to hear about another shooting. We were there when the blue parrot had theirs .Iam getting
tired of defending Mexico to all our friends for vacationing there. They think we are nuts for going, with all the violence and corruption, but there is something about the place that I love.
Does anyone know if that irritating b.p.m. drunk fest is going on this January ?

It wasn't Tequila Barrel. It was an "alpaca" vendor in front of his small store.

It is a little worrisome but hardly Acapulco. There is a theory that these acts are part of a larger effort in Q. Roo relating to politics and the change in government. I will leave it at that.
