Getting to Akumal from PDC?

Hello everyone, I've been lurking here for a while and now it's time to tap into the local knowledge of the members. Sweetie and I are flying in for Christmas this year for two weeks on the beach in Akumal. I am planning on jumping an ADO bus down to PDC, but from there to Akumal, what are some options for getting there? Collectivo is an option but is there a more direct option? Once we get into the area we will grab a local cab to the room, that shouldn't be a problem.
I look forward to some responses.
We are very excited and can hardly wait to arrive. This is much more expensive than our usual travels but this one is a treat. We are going to use this trip (partly, still lots of beach/rest time in mind) to scope out long term winter stays for the near future. We already have an option to live in Francisco Uh May so we are going to explore that town . It's a bit from the beach but the price will be awesome. Enough left over to rent/buy a car or scooter, maybe.

You won't be able to bring much luggage on the colectivo- so that isn't really a good option. Also very crowded, lots of stops, no AC usually- and some drivers drive like madmen.

If you want to keep costs down, the ADO to Playa then another to Akumal is a good option-but will take more time, of course.

of course a taxi all the way there is another option, but one of the most expensive. A private transfer is around the same amount, and more comfortable- you can even order beers for the ride.

There are several companies out there, I've used Canada Transfers and Best Day and USA Transfers and all were about the same price and service...and this site has one too.

If you originate from the airport, then you can take an Uber. A friend of mine just went Airport - PDC for 600 pesos. You can't call an Uber from Playa but he got the Uber driver's number and arranged 450 back to the Airport.

Not sure what the cost will be but probably less than a taxi and the cars are generally safer than the Nisssan Tsurus the taxi drivers usually drive.

Canada Transfers from Airport to Akumal is 129.00 CDN return, or about 1800 pesos.
Walk out the airport, there they are with your name on a sign, nice van, pre order a couple beers, and you are off. No waiting and no stopping. Well worth it especially if this trip is "a treat".... IMHO.

All of those are excellent replies, thank you. Because Sweetie has back pain, so the Uber or transfer company sound nice. After the plane flight, I didn't really want to put her into a colectivo but I have heard the ADO buses are comfortable. A van is better for the drive, it's probably about 1.5 hrs. so she could lie down and stretch out.

Awesome forum members, thank you.

Well, now that I am thinking about it, we do plan on renting a car for a couple of days to do some roaming around. Is there a local rental agency or should I make contact with the young lady we rented from last year, who is in PDC?

Personally, I would not use Uber in Mexico- taxi unions being how they are. But that is just me.

I also don't bother renting a car- just don't want the hassle in general, and I wouldn't be comfortable driving there for several reasons. I have never regretted not having a rental car anywhere I have been in Mexico- other than Cabo where the taxi fares are ridiculously high. Public transportation is cheap and excellent and lots of options.

We will be wanting to have some wheels so we can explore some of those dirt roads off the highway to the beach, and into some of the smaller towns and spots like Paamul. And Francisco Uh May. And Tao. All in search of winter getaways. If we wind up in PDC, we enjoy the walking and will take taxis when tired, that's for sure. This time we will need a bit more freedom than a taxi can provide. For our local days down on the beach, a taxi ride to the Mercado is in order.

I've rented a car on a number of occasions, for different reasons. Never a problem, except getting ripped off at a Pemex station once. (2 1/2 hours sleep, 10 hour flight, 2 + hours to get through immigration in Cancun, 1st time in Mexico, = Not on my A game).

If you were happy with last years experience, why not again? That is unless you weren't offered full insurance, or if you relied on your credit card insurance, which in my opinion is the height of stupidity.

If that's the case (no insurance), I'd recommend America, aka Cancun, aka Caribbean, or Avant.

I like Canada transfers as a service but their website isn't secure at all. Any information you put into their website can be pulled out trivially (an 8 year could do it). So my recommendation is never put in your credit card number on the website and pay in cash unless you want your card compromised.

I believe their the same company as USA transfers I've never tested their security but I have to assume it as awful as their other website.

Just a friendly tip...

Canada transfers and others I have tried accept cash to the drivers, so no worry about Credit card number theft.

I've always booked online and then paid in cash, too. I try to never or at least rarely use my cc in Mexico.

ok...a Mayab bus, then?
I guess I use 'ADO' sort of like 'Kleenex'- incorrectly.
But there is a bus from the Playa terminals that will stop at Akumal- right?

What about colectivos....a while back someone posted that the 'colectivo street' is moving from Calle 2 Norte between 15 y 20 to across the highway somewhere- did this happen? Was supposed to happen this summer I thought?
