To be clear, you are not the one I'm claiming is a Drama Queen

I monitor trends daily as part of my statistical analyses, and although I don't have historical data (numbers) in regards to this topic, I "see" a rise. We've only been visiting Playa for 15 years and have only that historical background to reference, but there's no question in my mind it is now trending upward based on our time there.

I really didn't see any "drama-queen-ness" like in many other threads, and the "old news" reference is obvious, but because it is old news that is the problem.

No, I was the one you were claiming me to be a drama queen. Name calling, adds so much depth to a conversation. Rather then discuss/debate topic its far more easier to throw names at posters.

Sorry you don't want to discuss the topic.

Drama queen whining about being called a drama queen in an attempt to create more drama.

A little more so than starting more threads on the same subject in response to a request that you use google instead of expecting people to do your research for you.

This article from Business Insider from early this year (which I mentioned the other day on another thread on this topic) doesn't indicate any statistical change over the past several years in this regard in Playa (Solidaridad), and only an out of trend spike in 2015 in Cancun and in the states as a whole (which tend to follow a similar track, given the predominance of Cancun in this category). Or at least it doesn't through November of 2016.

FWIW.

Yes, one dealer type shot another one in the leg as part of a dispute between them, apparently.

Just some drug dealers having a shoot out on 5th. No worries. No pattern here.

I heard that the one that was shot (maybe in the foot), was on the "wrong side of the tracks", so to speak.

Yes, that seems to be the implication. Or that that was at least alleged, or something.

Shot in the thigh.
Five shots. One hit in the thigh.
Next time four innocents may not be lucky.

Thanks for taking the time to hunt that down, but this data doesn't apply since the uptick of murders in public in Playa Centro (and Cancun) started after this data was run. So an upward trend would certainly be the case using current year to date data. But I don't want to belabor that point.

My point was simply as stated - I am concerned while some blow it off, and asking friends to trust me that they will be safe in Playa is a different story now versus last year and the year before......

And yes, there are definitely too many threads on this subject on this and other forums.
Thanks!

No worries. I didn't go hunt anything down. Had already seen it and (as I noted) referred to it here the other day.

And (as I also noted) the data applies through November of 2016. Haven't found an article with more recent data, but even to see that data through November of 2016, well it seems quite applicable and relevant to a number of folks referring to the situation over more than just the first half of this year. Not sure there's a jump in the statistics for this year, but if you have a link to such, I'd be interested in seeing it. Just saying there certainly is one... I don't find that convincing, myself. (shrug) I mean one hears an awful lot of misguided and exaggerated claims on the Internet and social media, and as often as not, people don't seem to know what they're talking about (no matter how emphatic they may get in claiming it's true). This is of course the case on all sorts of topics people talk about online, not just this kind of violence in this region of the world...
