CANCUN AIRPORT: Aerial activity exceeds 500 operations

A (corny) friend of mine sent this article that just appeared in Por Esto. The googAL translation is as follows:

"508 air operations were scheduled at the Cancun International Airport yesterday, of which 194 were national and 314 foreign flights with a cumulative of 14,717 so far in July and a daily average of 490.5, while at the ADO Terminal There was a regular influx; The suspension of the Volaris flight on the San Luis Potosí-Cancun route with 180 stranded passengers was also reported.
On Saturday 29 July there were 590 flights (211 domestic and 379 international) and on Sunday, July 30, 508 air operations were registered (194 nationals and 314 international), which represented a sum of 1,988 (405 nationals and 693 foreigners).
From July 1 to 30, 2016 had accumulated 13,808 domestic and international air operations with a daily average of 460.2, but now from July 1 to 30, 2017 the amount amounted to 14,717 with a daily average of 490.5, According to the sum of the figures provided by Aeropuertos del Sureste (Asur).
These figures revealed that from 1 to 30 July 2017, 909 more air operations were captured compared to the same period of last year, that is, 30 more flights each day and this represented an indicator of the growth of demand as far as it goes Of this summer season, with a tendency to grow more.
The current summer holiday period began on Tuesday, July 18 and will end on Sunday, August 20, with a total of 34 days of rest for students and teachers at the elementary level (preschool, primary and secondary), of which the first 13 days with good occupancy levels.
This past Saturday and Sunday was a good affluence, 590 and 508 flights were scheduled, respectively, and with that the increase of the daily amount has improved significantly in the last ten days.
With the daily average of 490.5 flights, an estimated approximate movement of 68 thousand 670 national and international travelers, of which about 34 thousand 335 were arrival and a similar amount of departure.
The previous holiday season was Easter, which ran from Saturday 8 to Sunday 23 April, with a total of 16 days of rest; A new record of 619 air operations was recorded on Saturday, April 8, of which 177 were domestic flights and 442 foreigners, up from the previous figure on Saturday, January 2, 2016, when there were 616 flights (191 national and 425 international) , But so far has not been able to overcome so far this season."

It looks like the current situation has not deterred many visitors from coming to this area, yet at least, IMO.

Lots of roads in town are also packed. One of the worst is AV. 10 around Juarez. I have seen the traffic back up on AV. 10 almost all of the way to Playacar.

How many of these folks you figure are headed to Playa as the final destination? If there are 34,335 average incoming travelers each day, that comes out to over 12.5 million! If even 7 million of those come to Playa, what do you figure that would add to the daily Playa population on average? That number would have to be huge and definitely water down the murder rate there to an almost insignificant number when compared to typical US cities.

ASUR reports that 20 million travelers went through Cancun Airport last year. They do not track how many go on to Playa.

From the stats though, that 20 million looks like arrivals and departures. The numbers are up this year and adds up to around 25 million, so just arrivals would be half that right?
