Unfortunately, it probably won't work. I think that you are supposed to sort Organic, Inorganic, Paper and Plastic trash items into different bins/trash cans or something like that.
And we already have trash sorters, the people that go around and collect from the trash plastic, aluminum cans and cardboard and sell it to area recyclers to make a living, albeit it a meager living.

The mayor Christina Torres says that the garbage truck will NOT pick up unassorted trash and that there are certain days ONLY for every kind of trash like organic, aluminum, cardboard, etc etc

In Merida we have inorganic and organic days - two organic pickups per week and one inorganic pick up per week. We also separate out plastic bottles and put them out in a kind translucent bags. Our scavengers now know they do not need to go through our trash looking for the plastic.

We sort it out pretty good, but not perfectly

Wow, fascinating. I hope everyone weighs in on what their particular town or city does, too.

You are frequently an obnoxious, caustic a-hole, but sometimes, funny.

this was kind of funny....(sorry Roni)....but it made me think.

it is odd how different cities do recycling and garbage pick-up so differently.

Each residence in my city has two very large rolly bins- one blue for recycling and one black for non-recyclable garbage. Pick-up is weekly for each spring to fall and every other week for each in winter. No extra charge for it, it's part of your property taxes like garbage pick-up.

The blue bins are for all recyclable plastic and glass containers, all cardboard and all paper, tin, cans, other plastic- anything with the symbols basically. You just toss it all in there together-no sorting.

What that means in practice is almost every household recycles as it is so simple-only the laziest and most dick-ish of people wouldn't cooperate in this case.

You are expected to wash or rinse out the containers of course, and remove caps and labels -but I am sure some don't- rude as I'd hate to be sorting those stinky things.

no idea how much of it actually ends up being recycled....hopefully most of it? And hopefully it's a net gain for the environment, I've read otherwise but not sure.

One of the odd things here is that we put our organic trash in a plastic bag.

Not one of my neighbors is aware of this change. I am not officially aware of this change. It might make for an interesting week. Not sure how they determine what is inside black garbage bags anyway. No one has bins. When we want to recycle, we wait until recycling day and take the stuff over to the place it is collected.

I used to manage one of those places. It was staffed, mostly, by developmentally disabled men.

I loved it when the newspaper in my wife's hometown (Her mom was the business manager) said in our wedding announcement:

Kathy is marrying Ron Smith, who works at the sheltered workshop.......

The new system might work if pickup is every day(except for sunday).......but out here in the sticks we get pickup maybe three times a week......days vary. I tip our garbagemen so I probably won't have a problem.

Anyone have the official program?

I would like to comply but not sure how seeing as we have no bins. Our trash guys usually come daily but I never see them. It is gonna be a nightmare at work because we put all the trash out daily (although we do recycle paper and batteries by taking them to Parque de la Ceiba). The problem is where to put the stanky trash for those days when they are not collecting stank.

OK, so I just saw the Q&A video the government put out.

Tuesday - bottles and paper
Thursdays - plastic and cans
Rest of the days - trash
