They could bring travel to a halt, but you would think that would be bad for their business. I know travel agencies here in Minneapolis are getting calls from customers wanting to change destinations.

Wife and I will be splitting time between Playa and Isla in Nov. already spent a week in Playa in June and we've been coming at least once a year for years. I understand people's concerns but we've yet to have any kind of scary experience in Playa, unlike some other places in the US and Caribbean, so we'll just carry on as normal.

Colima (where Manzanillo is) used to be regarded as one of the safest states on the Pacific coast.... not any longer.

I read this - very true and very unfortunate.
As long as there remains a huge demand for illegal drugs in the US and gigantic profits to be made by traffickers, the problem won't go away. The so called war on drugs has been a total failure; it's now as easy to buy drugs as it is to buy ice cream in nice respectable middle class communities all across the country. It's way past time to bow to the inevitable and legalize and regulate.

Just got back this past Friday. Nothing at all we were concerned about. Federal, State, and local police all around Fifth, including a big presence around where Coco Maya was, think that was the name of the club. We went to the Palazzo club the first night we were there, didn't leave until 3am, and walked all the way back to 38th from the club, 12th I think. Just payed attention to our surroundings, but no issues at all. Of course, we didn't venture off of Fifth, but we usually don't anyway, just haven't done it yet, really want to though.

Mr. de la Madrid also said the nation needed to do a better job redistributing tourism profits throughout society.

Ridiculous. There is poverty around, no doubt. But "thrives bloodshed?" Spare me.

My kids go to school in Colosio. I am there all the time. I have many friends who live there. They are not poor nor do they live on the beach end of Colosio. Like most of us, they just work and take care of their families.
