And we certainly wouldn't advise anyone to ignore or disregard this violence, or any other unsafe developments. I do understand the continued murders being a huge concern for anyone looking at Playa as a destination today. We'll be there next week and friends will be joining us for their first visit to Mexico. You can imagine the questions they have about the violence.

But people who were looking at AI resorts near Playa ands are now changing or making different travel plans based solely on the misinformation that was put out there on the "tainted" alcohol is a real shame...
The cartels were here two years ago, along with the violence. There was even violence on 5th , maybe not as much as now, but just the same, things happened. Hopefully just a spike in the stats. The media picks up on these things now more so, and forums are rife with the talk.

There is violence everywhere, and there was some violence in Playa when we first started visiting Playa several years ago and before I'm sure. But we never saw these repeated cartel assassinations on 5th Ave and in nightclubs headlining the news and this forum prior to this year. Maybe we missed something when researching over the years...

We and obviously many others are indeed a little concerned and are not thrilled at the situation, that's all. Getting to be old news now, and we don't need to belabor the point of whether it's an uptick or a spike, or "the new normal"...I'm sure we'll learn as time passes, but will still enjoy what the area has to offer. So much natural beauty and culture within reach...

Wow! I have never quoted myself before.
I'm complaining about this. I'm 74 and would love to spend a week at an A I. I no longer want to spend much time in town and don't go out at night anymore so I feel safe as hell. My wife on the other hand not so much, and that is the problem.

lol!
And yes, certainly understandable on her part with it all over the news regardless of the accuracy, but it's a shame nonetheless. But at least there are so many other beautiful areas with AI's and gorgeous beaches...

We rent our place thru AirBNB and VRBO. It's amazing how people tend to overlook bad press and Travel Warnings when their next Caribbean vacation is crushed by a couple of hurricanes...

We have had an amazing uptick in bookings over the past two weeks. I predict a great tourist season for PDC and Cancun...

We also have had an increase in inquiries & bookings. Just this morning we got a Christmas booking from a couple that always goes to Puerto Rico.

Yup. So far, one booking from Anguilla and another from the BVI. Inquiries are coming in every other day. If our place was beachfront I'd probably raise our nightly rate. As it is, I'm just happy to have it booked and feel bad profiting off such a tragic event.

I just hope everyone feels that way and I will be able to get cheap Sol and awesomely cheap ceviche in Xpu Ha this winter...

But it is clearly growing.

Is one better for you than the other?

The thing is, people want to go on vacation to relax and have fun. They don't want to be scared everytime they hear a loud noise and think it could be a gunshot.

We get about the same number of inquiries but VRBO results in more actual bookings. Not really sure why other than it's been around longer and maybe people who use are more seasoned and don't mess around.

Nobody is doing that, believe me. You vastly overstate the amount of fear people are experiencing here. It is more a topic of conversation than anything else. People are much more worried about the weather.
