Isla Mujeres Sept 10 -15

We drove over to Puerto Juarez with our good friends, MikeW and BonnyW on September 10. They had been here in Merida for a week of intensive Spanish classes and were ready for vacation. So were Kathy and I.

We drove over and our car was parked at the parking garage there (660 pesos for 5 days), and took the ferry over. We had a absolutely wonderful time!! Friends recommended some eating places, and their reco's were on target.

More later, and some pics.

The last day there, we had dinner with Babs and Sue, and they came over to our condo for drinks. Fun times!!

Look, I don't want to tell you how to run your trip reports but so far..... this one sucks. Could you like at least post a photo of Mike and Bonny?

The trip planning started early Spring 2017. The back story is Bonny, Kathy, Ron and myself are planning a trip to Europe together in 2018, Spain is the main destination (that may change based on current events). Bonny mentioned she would like to do Spanish immersion classes in preparation for the 2018 trip to Spain. I suggested she do those Spanish immersion classes in Merida and visit with Kathy and Ron at the same time. Kathy and Ron have a nice home in Merida with a separate upstairs area (almost a separate apartment), that has a bathroom, seating area, desk, refrigerator, coffee maker, and separate bedroom (air conditioned) that guests can use.

Original plans were for Bonny to go and stay with Kathy and Ron for 2 weeks while she goes to Spanish immersion classes. Mike shows up after 2 weeks and we all head to the coast somewhere for a 1 week vacation.

Plans change.

It was wonderful to have Mike and Bonny here for about 10 days, followed by 5 nights on Isla Mujeres. We met them via PI, along with other folks who have become good friends.

Europe will be fun. Sitting with them in a Port wine house just across the river from Porto, Portugal will be heavenly. Maybe we can even talk Bonny and Kathy into a few nights at a nudist resort on the Spanish Med coast. Kathy went there with me, but she tends to indulge my, well, idiosyncrasies. It is clothing optional, and has bocce courts, but in Spain it is called petanca. Basically the same game.

As Spring moved towards Summer this year, Bonny and I would occasionally talk about our trip to go see Kathy and Ron . I'm typically pretty busy until mid-June with Special Olympics activities. Then there were quite a few vacations of co-workers planned from late June through the end of July, so i could not take that time off. In addition Bonny has work related activities, remember she doesn't work during the Summer months , which was keeping her busy through about the same time period. Bonny also had to go to school for new student orientation about 5 different days spread throughout the summer, going when her co-workers found excuses not to pull their weight. Basically she could not find 3 weeks straight she could get off. Remember I only needed one week off, but somehow that information got lost in translation between Bonny and myself .

Things being things , we had a few heated discussions about which person was the road block to spending time with Kathy and Ron.

I am glad you two worked it out.
