Isla Mujeres Trip Timing - Spring

My husband and I can't get away in 2018 until the week after Easter. We're planning for 8 nights, arrive Monday and depart the following Tuesday, April 2 - 10. We'll not have another opportunity to go until mid-May.

If you have experience with travel to Isla Mujeres during the post-Easter Mexican school break, what was it like? Would you postpone a trip to Isla Mujeres until May? My concerns are crowds, lines and levels of service.

It will be crowded.
Each day after Easter it should start thinning out, but it will still be busy.
We just returned - very quiet - relatively speaking.

Thanks for corroborating what I've read on other threads and the TA IM forum. It's valuable to me to get a response from someone I've met and who I think can roll with it - come what may.

I hope you and Sue had a great time on Isla

I think May would be good for Isla. That's when we go. Already have our place set for 10 nights this upcoming May. Still can be crowded during the day due to day trippers but, after 6pm crowds are thinning out.

Thanks for the replies. May is possible, but for us weather at home is a consideration. Our favorite time to visit the Yucatan Peninsula is February or March. Windy sometimes, a norte sometimes, but still much better weather than at home. Plus, the travel dates buoy us through winter blahs.

By May, our winter blahs are gone and weather is great here at home. We're gardening and enjoying local outdoor activities.

We'll see. I'm not going to get too twisted. The reason our travel schedule has been different recently is my DH's school schedule. In his early 50's he went back to study culinary arts. He refuses to miss a week of class unlike his first college days. But he enjoys it immensely and I enjoy benefits from his learning

Just got back this past week. Me and four other ladies- we stayed at Nautibeach.

It is not even high, HIGH season yet- and it was quite busy and crowded. Thankfully the beach right in front of our complex was lovely and never really got crowded...down by Ixchel and past that was a sea of people once December 1 hit. And the traffic has gotten way worse and the daytrippers were already out in full force.

Hidalgo is officially a downscale Fifth Ave with worse shopping, lol-so far as the catcalling vendors and offers of drugs go. At least they stuck to only asking me if I wanted to buy drugs and left my mom alone.

We had a good time. I always have a good time. Lovely beaches and some very good restaurants (Olivia is as wonderful as ever, and Lola Valentina and Rooster and Mango Café are still wonderful.) But it will be my last stay on Isla.

oh- and the clincher- we were having lunch at Playa Lancheros. Us, maybe two other tables of gringos, and maybe five other tables of either locals or Mexican tourist, quite a few kids there.

A catamaran arrived and unloaded about 40 naked and semi-naked people who paraded right by us on their way to and from the beach club next door (Albatross). They stayed about an hour and then along came another one, same thing. Apparently they are from Temptations (or is it Desires?)

I'm no prude, couldn't care less about topless women on the beach, but I'm talking full nudity, both men and women, and there was a lot of inappropriate fonding all around going on. Very creepy and highly inappropriate. We laughed at the time (at them and not with them) but the more I think about it, the more skeeved out I am....

Just too busy and over developed for me now. Way too many daytrippers.

Especially in high season. I can’t imagine how packed it would be then.

To top it all off, my mom is been in the hospital since last night. Horrible case of TD. They finally got her potassium level up to 3.7 today.

I have not experienced high season there for quite a few years. Well, we were there for a couple of nights last year in early December. Did not do the beach during that one, we went over to see friends and to show the place to our friend.

This year we went in August and stayed at a 2 bedroom condo at Nautibeach with another couple. Had a bit rougher than usual seas for a day, and then pretty calm day 2 and its normal on day 3, 4, and 5.

Did not seen overly crowded then.

didn't seem overly crowded to me in Isla, Maggie. missed you at the Rock Bar meet up. we never had to wait at a restaurant and always got beach chairs. that's crazy about the day trippers you saw at Playa Lancheros!!!

we just booked Isla for Feb 3-7 for Super Bowl and are going to be booking soon for our May 5-13 trip.

I think it was just so much busiER than the other two visits, it was jarring.

No, we never had to wait at any restaurants either and there was loads of space on the beach in front of Nautibeach- just farther down looked super packed to me- but that is also because Playa Norte has shrunk in half since my last trip.

My foursome were out to dinner that night at Rolandis- we walked past Rock Bar about nine-nine thirty and there was a bunch of people but no one I recognized-and for sure I didn't see you or E!

it seemed about normal as to the times that i've went over the past two years. i was there at Rock Bar until about 10:30-11. was at a table at the very front and we ordered pizzas and salad from Capricci next door and had it delivered. Erica wasn't there. they had turned in early that night.
