Our President is a "racist", and her religion is.....what??? And don't start, I DON'T MEAN EVERY MUSLIM, but the fact is, we cannot pretend it's not the truth that the radical muslims want us dead. I totally agree about the parents of my generation creating this millenial mess. Some of us, though, while raising our kids with a lot of privilege, managed to instill in them the values that got us where we were. I would put forth that it was the more conservative of us; those who were part of, but didn't continue to live by, the "sex, drugs, and rock n roll" era - the "I'm Ok, You're OK" phase, when parents decided they should be their kids' friend, instead of PARENT. |

Parents of all political stripes raised responsible children and parents of all political stripes raised irresponsible children. Some very conservative parents taught their children to hate those who were different, different skin color, different sexual orientation, etc... Some of those kids were marching in Charlottesville chanting anti-semetic things that go back to pre WW II Germany. |

One important thing is to give kids limits, enforceable limits. Kids are going to push up against limits, it is part of growing up and becoming an independent grown-up. Give them limits they can push against without putting themselves and others in danger. |

Many of us are getting a kick of the incident in Edina, my neighboring suburb. Edina has a bigoted history, including at covenant that barred Jews, which included my parents, from buying a house in the community. OMG, a Muslim living in Edina.
![]() Conservatives have recently been on the attack against the affluent communtiy, but just over a year ago many were applauding the city after a racial incident. I covered a march after that incident. ![]() Last edited by Mnbruce; 11-16-2017 at 08:07 AM.. |

Though generations are borderless countries, high school age kids are slightly young to be Millennials. The average age of my students is mid to late 20’s, so they are firmly in the generation that many adults here are so fond of maligning. A major phenomenon about this age group that I notice is that they seem to care a lot about the world (which should cheer up you crusty old Boomers considering that they will be the ones, theoretically, to take care of you).
My parents were Age of Aquarius hippy boomers. They were not strict or “straight-laced” in their parenting style at all. I think that my brother and I grew up pretty well adjusted. In fact, most of my friends who dropped out of college, partied too hard, or had a major f-up before the age of 20 had super strict parents. Significant changes to society, like technology, impacts all generations. Look at who’s crashing into fountains and walking around with their nose in their phone 24/7; half of them are older adults. Generational bashing is bullshit. Kids have not changed much, you have. |
