Again, a personal story: My 37 year old single daughter, during this conversation the other evening, said that she is completely fed up with the dating scene. "Mom, you meet a guy at some event, you have great conversation for an hour or two, he takes you home, a kiss at the door....and he thinks he's coming in to get laid. I'm like.....Could you AT LEAST call me up, take me to dinner??? At least TRY to pretend you weren't interested in me all evening just for sex??"

And you know what she was complaining about? Being called a "girl". "I'm NOT a GIRL, I'm a GROWN ASS WOMAN". Seriously?? I can't in any way imagine being insulted by being called a girl. That's crazy to me.
Well, I don't really like being called a 'girl'. I get it at work all the time, and in return I call them boys. They don't really enjoy that either, so they soon get my (very gentle and humorous) point, and stop doing it. Some continue though, so I simply continue calling them 'boy' and everyone is happy.

I'm 47 and calling me a girl IS, imo, a bit demeaning, not cute. But I do agree that some men doing it mean no harm at all, so I would never ever make a fuss about it. What would be the point? So the poor man (usually older) feels like a fool and is more distrustful and confused by women than ever? Wow, that is helpful to our cause, all right! Way to go ladies!

We were doing so well with this thread. Please don't let it degenerate into another argument about Bill Clinton v. Donald Trump, which one is bigger dirty ole' egg sucking horndog? I have seen enough of those arguments on Facebook to last me a life time.

I’m sitting in the airport with my hubs and he tells me this story: (just a teeny bit off topic)
A young associate at his law firm apparently has an air freshener that her secretary doesn’t like- and apparently is having a reaction to, or something. The secretary keeps getting up to shut the door to the office because the smell bothers her. Apparently there have been a few “discussions” between them about the issue and it has not been resolved. Today, my husband gets an email from the associate (ridiculously long) stating that she is being “bullied”. Because the secretary is shutting her office door.
I can’t even. He looks at me and says.....WHAT THE HELL...

I agree. This is not about politics, because reprehensible behavior does not have a party. I am glad to see the a national conversation going on after the Weinstein story.I don’t know if it result in anything positive, but hopefully it will cause some men to think about their behavior and attitudes towards women.

You are the only one who employed Mr Trump's name in this thread.

There is a Huge Difference between Donald and Bill.

Donald is President and Bill is not.

I am concerned about who is in the office now. That is Donald. If Donald resigns then I won't care.

This is very honest, and addresses the silence from some actors at the time of the harassment. You really have to read the entire piece, so I am not going to select an excerpt.

It was specificially requested that this thread remain non-political and, up until just recently that request has been honored and we have had a fruitful, adult discussion on the subject. Please continue to refrain from politics and if you can't, post on another thread. Now, I am going to read Mel's article.

As I read it, I tried to put myself in her shoes. As a man, I could not completely do so and that is where some things confuse me (which is my problem, not hers). I cannot understand how one man could be given so much power and could get away with the things he did to the extent he did for as long as he did. Many men had to know. Why one didn't kick his ass is beyond me.

Perceived power, and because most men today are pussies. Look around. The roles of men & women have reversed, in large part.

Mr. Trump? Is he not still President Trump?

It didn't take a crystal ball to see that if Bill Clinton is dragged into this then President Trump would be too, which is exactly what happened. This is not a partisan issue, the problem cuts across pretty much all of society's divisions and trying to make a partisan issue of it doesn't lead to anything productive. I am going to read the article Mel posted too before I comment on this thread again.

The power he had was hardly something new. The “ casting couch” has been portrayed in film likely back to the days of silent films.

It's hard to believe he got away with it for so long, yes- but money and power are big motivators. He obviously is a sleazy jerk who felt untouchable, and people kept reinforcing that (by covering for him and excusing his behavior) so he only got worse.

Ben Affleck is getting a lot of flack for not doing more to speak out against him in the past- and doing some harassing of his own, apparently.
