What a rational, reasonable POV. Because we don't require licenses for vehicles. Because trucks, after all, are totally comparable to guns.

He also had a paintball gun and a pellet gun.
Seems like even the pathetically inadequate gun laws kept him from buying more lethal guns, thereby likely saving many lives. That's a positive, maybe.

The chief complaint about Trump's response to the Las Vegas shooting versus his response to the NYC attack is that in the aftermath of the former he said that it was "too soon" to discuss policy changes the next day and his surrogates insinuated that anyone who disagreed was somehow a terrible person, whereas now he is proposing specific policy changes within hours of the event. I don't think this is motivated by racism but simply by the fact that he does not agree with changes to gun control policy but he does agree with changes to immigration policy. As usual though he makes a mess of his plans for immigration reform almost immediately. By using the attack as a springboard for a completely nonsensical and ridiculously unfair personal attack on a political rival he makes it almost impossible for his favored policies to achieve any kind of bipartisan support since support will now be seen as "piling on" to Chuck Schumer. Trump seems simply incapable of forethought or strategy.

What should concern all of you is that Trump's tweets might be providing Saipov with a defence. His lawyers now might be able to successfully argue that Trump's attacks against their client make it impossible for him to get a fair trial. There is a very good reason why in the past Presidents who were not insane made a point of not commenting on matters that are sub judice.

I made the very same point in our office this AM. We are a nation of laws, not a nation of twitter. Although, sometimes I wonder!

I did miss it....sorry.

It is just a matter of time before some one does would have been a better statement.

As predicted. NYC has these concrete barriers protecting most pedestrian ways (like the ones surrounding Times Square) and other bike paths. I have no idea why one of the busiest bike/pedestrian paths in the shadow of Freedom Tower and the 911 Memorial did not have them.

Quote:
The city is installing concrete barriers at more than four dozen intersections along the West Side Highway and adjacent bike path to prevent tragedies like the pickup truck terrorist attack that killed eight people on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

And if anyone believes cement barriers will prevent future terror attacks that take lives, you're naive. The only thing that will stop terror attacks is the complete extermination of the terrorists. Pretty simple. Oh, and not inviting them into our country would be a pretty good thing to do too.

The cement barriers would have prevented this attack. They would also prevent future copy cat attacks. That works for me.

Okay, so he would have tried another way if his objective was to kill people.
