We received our package today from Mr. Tofu via DHL (2 day delivery).

It came in a small cooler with two ice packs. Items still cold.

mrtofu.com.mx - they have it and will overnight it to you (along with anything else you want from their wide selection of vegan products) for $399 pesos shipping.

Looks to me like you have missed many of the previous posts.

Oh, boy: I recognize ALL those items from our kids' purchases in the States. So we'll definitely have to make use of this site.

How is that Gardein non-turkey?

Hi ryberg,

We haven't tried it yet...saving it for Christmas dinner. But we'll let you know how it turns out.

It does seem strange that they don't sell the Tofurky brand roast (especially since they have other Tofurky brand products).

Oh well...

Well having seen this info and PuertoDISE's results there, Dave & Stacey (and having shown them to my daughter, as well, who was very happy!), I think we'll just try ordering ourselves and go with the Gardein option and some other things. But thanks again for the gracious offer!

PuertoDISE (or anybody else), you have any trouble ordering via credit card? We've tried 3 different cards on 2 different platforms using 2 different browsers, and every time just get the alert to try again with a different card. And the folks on their help line are friendly enough but say they don't know anything or can't do anything about that...

Hi ryberg,
We used our PayPal account. Money is taken from our US bank account.

Well I have to say, YMMV but just a terrible experience for us with this Mr Tofu.

Day 1: 3 different credit cards (1 from Mexico, 2 from the US) were repeatedly rejected without explanation by their web site, even though we tried repeatedly on 2 different browsers on 2 different platforms, and the bank of one card said that no attempt to charge had even been made. Telephone personnel at Mr Tofu no help. Later they emailed a screen shot of account info we could use to pay in cash, as they noted, at any Oxxo or 7-Eleven.

Day 2: We try to do just that and are informed by the fine folks at Oxxo that no, in fact they didn't give us the correct or complete info and no such payment could be made at Oxxo. We reply to Mr Tofu to tell them this.

Day 3: Nothing back.

Day 4: Finally give up and go to the bank and use the info to pay in the morning, then come back to a message cheerfully providing us the additional info we need to pay at Oxxo 2 days prior. No apology or reason for the lapse provided. But whatever, we're all set, we think, and inform them that after 3 days of trying various routes, we have finally been able to pay. Several hours go by and then they finally reply, requesting a copy of the receipt for the payment. We send that back immediately but now it's too late, they say, to ship out, so they'll do that the next day.

Day 5: They inform us that the shipment has gone out and, in one of many instances, assure us that it will arrive the following day, nice and cold and in good shape, and in plenty of time to serve in part as the main dish for our 2 vegetarians for Christmas Eve dinner.

Day 6: Package doesn't arrive, doesn't arrive, doesn't arrive, and finally I go on line with the tracking number to discover that DHL claims they tried to deliver the package but the premises were closed. Well the premises were Hotel Playa Maya, which never closes, and at which FedEx had just successfully delivered, in fact, in the late afternoon / early evening. Turns out the driver just didn't try to get down to Playa Maya (as apparently FedEx had no problem doing), and meant that the street was closed. Also worth noting that they did not bother to try to call the number on the order to inquire about this situation, even though it was there and correct. But Mr Tofu says not to worry -- they'll certainly keep it in a refrigerated area all night and it's packed this or that special way and it will arrive nice and cold first thing in the morning the next day, still in plenty of time for Christmas Eve.

Day 7: Again the package doesn't arrive, doesn't arrive, doesn't arrive... Get another message from Mr Tofu assuring us that while they don't know what's going on, all the food will be good and cold! DHL finally stumbles into our reception with it around 4:00 pm, and everything from the container itself to the food items inside is at room temperature. We point this out to the DHL delivery guy, who doesn't even argue. So we refuse delivery, as we had notified both DHL and Mr Tofu that we would do, if it didn't appear to be in good condition when it finally arrived, and begin an exchange of messages with Mr Tofu in which they do nothing but repeatedly insist that yes, the package and its contents were fine -- they MUST have been fine! Etc, etc. We ask them to send another order out immediately, so that we may still have a chance to get it in time for Christmas Eve, which was the whole purpose of this order and which they had repeatedly promised us would be no problem, but they advise us that unfortunately, DHL has asked them NOT to send any more shipments, because poor DHL is overloaded at the moment. (!) We advise them that many other companies can deliver, but they inform us that they will just talk to DHL about what happened with the package, as if that has anything to do with us or will help us get the food.

Day 8: Looking forward to explaining to my kids that no, they won't have any of those special non-turkey items they like, after all, while everyone else has special food for Christmas Eve, and of course to fighting with Mr Tofu still more in order to get our money back.

DHL here is something else.... I had a package that was a few days late. I saw the truck in the Office Max (1 km from my house) parking lot. Guy was in line for copies. I asked him about the package. We went to his truck and he gave it to me.

Just to follow up, of course YMMV, but our advice is to stay well away from this company. We have been told that we will be refunded or credited -- can you guess? -- exactly zero for the almost 2,000-peso (100 USD) order we placed, despite assurances from the company that they take customer service seriously and want to make sure we're satisfied (!). Just not their problem, they say, nor will they go to bat with DHL to get back whatever they paid them, apparently, much less refund our shipping payment or any of the much larger amount for the food items themselves. They offered a discount on a future order, but you know, fool me once, shame on you, but fool me twice...
