VA medical benefits

Has anyone here ever tried to use their VA medical benefits?
I'm a Vietnam vet but have always had better medical with my job. Now being retired and with all the doubts about the future of Medicare I'm thinking about checking it out.

I use some of them. My father used much more.

Dad was 100% disabled. So, he received a major portion of his care and compensation thru the VA.

I mainly use them for my hearing. Last February, they gave me hearing aids.

I'm not sure what the timeframe after military service is for being rated for disability. But, you should look into it. It may not be real fast, but it is quality care.
If you aren't close to a VA facility, you can also look into VA Choice. That allows you to go to local participating physicians.

Hubby just started using his this year...it depends on the facility. We go to one in Texas when we can for major stuff. We have a local clinic that is good for minor issues- a few little screw ups. Any meds he gets thru the VA. - mail order - cant beat that.

If you have to travel for major surgery they will also give you money for gas and hotels.

If you were ever at Camp Lejeune - there is a special lawsuit going on for VVs for a variety of health issues. Get on board with that.

I understand if you can prove you were in an Agent Orange area, there is also special emphasis.

I heard that to - our local clinic has been very informative and helpful - my complaint is the computer is always down, so when you go in for your appointment you may have to wait awhile
The one at Leujune is for water issues (Hep-c) and all the issues that come with that.

I appreciate the help.
I take two expensive prescriptions that are raising my health costs and I think I can get hearing aid coverage through the VA. I have to go and visit my local office after thanksgiving, I can't call because of my hearing, being deaf is a big pain in the patute.

Can some one call for you ? I know I call for Hubby most of the time - I am better at dealing with this sort of thing than he is
Hubs joined for the prescription coverage.

Tip - always have them give you print outs of everything - appointments etc. keep it in a folder and take it with you. Their computers are often down. Also get copies of your medical records and take them with you as well.
