My MIL is visiting from QR and staying with us this Xmas. She is a great cook and she treats us to delicious, traditional Yucatecan food, all accompanied by handmade tortillas. I am hoping to get some queso relleno this year. Since we won't be going to QR this Xmas, it's the next best thing.

I baked Christmas cookies all day to deliver to friends later this week, before we leave. I made the doughs this weekend, but I still worked about seven hours today and I still have to decorate. 😲😲😲

I never feel right about the season if I don’t make cookies, though.

We get off to a bang after moving back to Playa this summer by hosting Christmas in the house in Playacar for about 30 of my familia politica coming in from elsewhere in the state and from Mexico City. I will be in charge of cookies (oatmeal-choc chip) and pies (a couple apple, an apple cranberry and not sure what else -- maybe some berry mix or something), as well as the cranberry sauce and the vegetarian / meat-substitute fare for our son and older daughter. (Finally got my Mr Tofu order in yesterday!) Everything else is being purchased or made or brought or whatever by others, and will be a mix of more typically American stuff and things on the Mexican side that I usually only see here for the holidays (bacalao, romeritos).

They have dug up an aging karaoke machine for use after Christmas Eve dinner and carols and presents. (Yes, this is a family who actually bought a karaoke machine.) So we will see how that goes...

That is like my mom. She always HAS to make 4 xmas treats- shortbread, butter tarts, pumpkin pie, and Nanaimo bars. And no one eats them other than my stepfather!

For me, it doesn't feel Christmassy until I put my tree up- and I didn't this year. Time got away from me and then mom was in hospital and I won't be home anyway....but it doesn't feel right

It will only take an hour or so, now that you know she is ok, you should put it up!

I know, you're right. I'm lazy when I get home, ten hour days get harder the older I get.

I should actually go get a real tree...hmmm. One of the reasons I don't want to put the fake one up at this late date is that I know I will be vacuuming up glitter until March...

Have fun in NYC- at Christmas, should be magical.
BF's daughter and her man are going to Dublin for a week on Boxing Day- that should be nice too.

yes and no- because for some reason imbedded You Tube vids are not showing up for me on this new computer- I only get a white/blank square.

But I deduced who the band is (Weather Station- at first I thought it might be Broken Social Scene you were talking about) and watched some of their songs. I think she is really good. It's not really my thing, but I liked it! I liked Floodplain the best.

I am still obsessed with the Lumineers and (especially) the Avett Brothers these days.

And as a follow up I just made my first ever eggnog, the recipe says the reason for the large amount of booze was to kill any bacteria in the raw eggs.
Merry Christmas and a hardy HO HO HO!!

Nothing like having your 14 year old grand kid call you at 6 AM to say Merry Christmas and I miss you! Come over! She was thrilled with 3 bean bag chairs and a popcorn machine........ready for movie night! Love the grands!

Merry Christmas to All!
