Christmas / Holiday Eats

Christmas breakfast calls for, I think, one of Kathy's wonderful omelettes.

Christmas Dinner for the two of us?

We could go out for Chinese, but that is not our custom.

Maybe a meal built around a beef tenderloin.

We will be visiting our youngest for Christmas, in Yorktown, VA. He already has the meals planned out.
Christmas Eve will be pot roast
Christmas will be pasta in a red Sunday sauce.

He does all the cooking and has become quite an accomplished Gore Met!

Yorktown is beautiful. A drive on the Colonial Parkway is always nice around Christmas time.

Christmas Eve just hubby and I. Prime rib, twice baked potato.

Christmas day a house full. Homemade cinnamon rolls to start the morning then Whole ham with a bourbon glaze, browned potatoes with parnips, maple glazed carrots, broccoli casserole, waldorf salad, pretzel/strawberry salad. The usual Christmas desserts, pecan pie, sweet potato pie, apple pie, rum soaked fruitcake. And wine.

We will be having the Christmas special at Mel's drive-in, top down fursure, supposed to be close to 70 degrees. Turkey sandwich, Cranberry sauce with the can imprint still on it, mashed potatoes followed up with a chocolate milkshake, you can't beat tradition. Kids will be in the back seat.

Sure is!!

Christmas Eve - church then we go out, some kids with us, the one with our grandson not - I GUESS I have to "share" him with the other grandparents, sheesh.

Christmas Day, though - everyone here, starting early for present opening. We will have all 3 daughters, 2 significant others, grandson, and FOUR dogs. Yes, FOUR. Yipes, opening gifts will be nuts.

Then others join for dinner - turkey in the infrared fryer, a whole tenderloin, balsamic roasted pearl onions, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, some veggie thing my sister is bringing....dessert is home made italian anise cookies and whatever my youngest and b/f bring with them.

Good times. Lots of work because my husband doesn't do kitchen. AT ALL. But worth it.

Now to get rid of this lousy cold before it all....

I am amazed - I finished all my xmas shopping AND wrapping yesterday. I'm never done this early.

I work until Thursday this week and then Friday I will drive down south to my mom's place. Saturday we are having a small family dinner- I think there will be about ten people. The plan is ham and scalloped potatoes.

Coming back on the 24th and Christmas Day the boyfriend and I are making turkey dinner- he has his kids, who are 23 and 21. He is in charge of the turkey, stuffing, taters, and a veg. I am bringing cranberry sauce and buns (both made yesterday and in the freezer), a salad of some sort, and dessert - some kind of pie I suppose. I like pumpkin but apparently no one else does, so pecan and apple maybe? or one and a cheesecake.

and TWO dogs only....his ancient Rottie named Chloe, and the daughter and her BF just got a new puppy I am anxious to meet. It's a Sheepadoodle (yeah, yeah, I know- but the damn thing is CUTE! ).

Christmas Eve at my guy's family. Casual dinner. I'm bringing cold Asian noodle salad and cheesy broccoli rice casserole.

Christmas day at my brother's with a big group. We're doing brunch then going bowling. I'm bringing bloody Mary fixins and prosecco. We are doing a white elephant exchange for the first time, so it was nice only buying one gift. Should be fun.

We arrive in Manhattan on the 22nd. On the 23rd we are going to spend the day checking out the window displays, the tree, the Christmas fair, maybe do a little shopping....

On Christmas Eve afternoon we are going to the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.

I’m not sure what we will do on Christmas Day. It will depend on what’s open...

Christmas at the ranch - 14 family members, 10 dogs. We are staying in the big house this year - others staying in the cottage or dairy barn (refurbished into a home) and a large RV. Lots of cooking and other ranch fun.(4 wheelers for me) !

Christmas Eve, church....not sure what we'll eat afterward.

Christmas Day, I think I'm going to make a lasagna for Steve and the boys and eat it late afternoon. Going to my niece's that evening for desert and festive drinks!!

Pork tenderloin with a dry chili ancho rub. Pasta with creamy poblano sauce, and a fruit salad/ceviche thing I make with pears, kiwi fruit, fish and shrimp (kind of stole this from the Caribe tostada at Chiltepin).
