Sadly, Mom’s Bar is closing.

After nine years, Mom’s is closing.
It has been the go-to bar for me and Sue for years.
We’re running out of affordable places to hang out.
I suppose, Alive Bar will pick up the slack.
We will certainly miss Jurgen, the great food and the comradery.

The message from Jurgen:

Quote:
Hola Amigos. How are you?

I am very sad but also somehow relieved to announce that

MOM'S BAR & GRILL will close its doors under my owner ship at the end of this year.

Last operating day will be Friday, December 29 and we are having a little shut down party.

20 % discount on all drinks starting @ 6 pm.

Food is also available but we might and hopefully run out of things.

It was my pleasure and a lot of fun to operate this place and I met 1000 s' of people that I would have never got to know.

As most of you know I do have some serious health issues and spend a lot of time in Europa. My level of energy and ambition is very low so it's time to go before things get bad and the reputation will be gone. I was trying to find a new owner and offered the operation for a very affordable price but in the end nobody signed on the dotted line.

It seems like that the owner of Mom's Hotel will completely remodel the place and than we see what will happen.

There is not enough space and time in this world to mention and to thank everybody that helped in one way or the other to make Mom's a success. Our friendship will continue and I am planning to stay in Playa del Carmen.

Thank you very much to all our friends and clients and to the people that have worked with me over the years.

I actually never planned to own a Bar in the tropics but I am very thankful that I had the opportunity.

So long Amigos and thank you for your patronage....

See you on Friday ???

Jurgen is a good man. I only went to his bar once because I don't really do bars but know him on the outside as our workplaces are close to each other and our paths often cross. He is in my thoughts and prayers and I am glad he is going to concentrate on his health. He is one of those few people in Playa who everyone likes. I hope his farewell party is a success.

So sad, another one bites the dust.
It will be missed, but health is more important!

He is still in Playa.
He plans to remain here but he doesn’t get out much.

On another sad note, Rico, the owner of Mom’s Hotel passed away yesterday.
Sad times for Mom’s.

Thanks Bab's. A friend thought it was Jurgen who passed so I posted my question as I did not wanting to sound the alarm. Still sad news now that I know it was the owner of Mom's.

All this news of Moms is so very sad. One of our favourite places in Playa. We have reservations for 2 weeks at the hotel starting mid February. It certainly won’t be the same without the bar/restaurant. Jurgen is a gem....

The hotel staff have always been efficient answering emails. We have been trying for 2 weeks to make a reservation for a friend and have had no reply. Now that I read of Rico’s sad passing I’m kinda wondering about the hotel. Does anyone know if the hotel is operating as usual? Also thinking about our amigo Dennis who lives there....where does he go for happy hour now?

Anyone ever up that way? Gracias!

Mom's Hotel is still operating as in the past. Arturo manages front desk and is there most mornings. That is when I would email him to ensure he got the email. The one computer is used by other employees that are less diligent. Attention Arturo!! in the subject line should work.
