Bomb Cyclone hitting the East Coast

I have never heard of this before.

But its nasty. Below zero temps in Md for the next 3 days . Winds gusting over 30 mph

I work outside as a Contractor , looks like I will be working inside at the Casino playing poker .

I hate winter . The older I get the colder I get

It's like naming winter storms. Why was that necessary. And a storm like this in September is a hurricane. But, because it's in January they come up with "bomb cyclone". What does that even mean? Spinning bomb?

Either way, this storm hasn't let up here yet. A real Nor'Easter blowing outta the Sou'West!

I was just looking at web cams in OC MD . Blizzard conditions there.

We were just there for NYE .

Are you close to the coast in Delaware ? Rehoboth or Bethany ?

I went into my office only to find out that most of our clients closed for the day since their employees couldn't get to work. (New York City/Suburb area). I closed the office after a couple hours and sent everyone home. I then took a terrifying ride home, no visibility, winds blowing the vehicles side to side, no ability to see if you were on the road or the median and getting stuck behind the dumbass in a rear wheel drive vehicle trying to get up a hill. I wish I had brought a diaper and Xanax for that ride home. Over 2 hours to get 30 miles.

We're 30 mins North of Rehoboth. But, still about 5 miles inland from the Delaware Bay. It still hasn't stopped snowing here.

I got the email for select employees to report literally as I was walking out the door this AM. So, I texted all my guys to stay home, then went in. Spent about 3 hrs there and called it quits. Amazing the difference in road conditions that 3 hrs made!

So, this AM, I was talking to our WX guys here on base. He too is sick of the "made up" terms describing weather. But, he explained where "Bomb Cyclone" came from.

It stems from the technical term of Bombogenesis. Which is a mid latitude cyclone that intensifies very rapidly. But, Bombogenesis just doesn't have the same ring for the Doom and Gloom Channel (Weather Channel). So, because it's a cyclone, they merged the two terms and came up with Bomb Cyclone. Not a real thing, but a real thing!

Bombogenesis
