Holbox Stay question

I posted this on TripAdvisor forum and received no response --So Ill try here We are looking at staying on Holbox for a few days in February at Hotel Villas Delfines, Villas Tiburon by the Beach or Hotel Margaritas Apartments & Suites. Has anyone stayed at one of these recently- the good, the bad and the ugly please. Thanks

Might want to check out holboxaholics facebook page. People answer questions there pretty quick.
We went last year and I remember delfinas is across the road from a nice area of beach and close enough to town to walk in but not too close. I have heard good things about it but haven't stayed there.
We will be on Holbox at Mawimbi 2/23 - 3/6. It's our new fave place

holbox

Does it make sense to go to Holbox from Playa del Carmen for just a day?
Or if an overnight stay, what is the best and most affordable way to get to Holbox? Is there a bus...taxi...to the ferry? Cost etc., Much appreciated.

No. Not just for the day, if it were me.
ADO runs from Playa to Chiquita at 9:25 am and 10:00 am and a return at 2:45 and 4:15. 260 pesos each way. It’s almost a two and a half hour trip so that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time on the island.
Stay overnight.

If you want to be hard core, you could rent a car and leave super early to make the 2 hour drive to the 8am ferry, and then take the last ferry out and get back to playa at about 10:30pm, you would get a good 11 hours or so to spend there.

I do a similar trip all the time from NYC to Atlantic City. It's grueling for sure, but do-able.

Agreed. I think a day trip would be a waste of time and tiring. We rented a car and stayed overnight and even that seemed like too much of a rush. To be rushing around Holbox is missing the whole point of Holbox.
Andy is right, it can be done, but why be "hardcore" on vacation.

Yea we did the ado up last year and spent two nights and fell in love with the place. I'd recommend at least 1 overnight to get a feel for the place. It's small but plenty to see.
