Too much to ask for one gay link on your site ...
Considering all the posts simply looking for the name of a gay bar and/or beach, and all the times you respond and remind us how cool and open PDC is -- why can't your site be cool enough to provide at least one link for the same sexers? Since the site reminds us to search there before making a new post, it really would save us a lot of time. (I did read your site first - found mostly a lot of talk about straight bars on the beach).
(yes, I know this is posted in the wrong thread - thought I was posting to a general admin/ feedback thread) Last edited by dane; 05-21-2004 at 08:21 PM. Reason: wrong thread |

Finally!!!!
Wow! I was begining to think I was the only one (again)! Glad to hear someone else looking for some representation! I asked James about searching the forum for gay links and such, he said that the search function only recognizes four letter words and since gay was only 3 letters....I searched Homo and manlove -both having more than three letters-and still nothing!!ha ha ha Seriously, nice to hear from you. When I began researching James said "I think you want Aventura Mexicana" armed with all that I was off! Turns out , as brief as he was, James was right! Aventura Mexicana is the only gay owned and advertised hotel I could find. The owner is Andreas and he is very nice. Andreas also added that although the hotel is gay owned and advertised they are very straight friendly, which I thought was so progressive!(ha ha) i.e. there could be straight people everywhere!! I'm cool with that as long as none of em try to recruit me!!!!! I really hope you're getting my sense of "backwards world" humor! Sometimes it can be frustrating researching a vacation. It's not like we're looking for Go-Go boys at the Breakfast Buffet or Drag Queens on the beach( although ...) It would be nice to have a few places -beach, cafe, crusies that are for specificly designed for us.Don't get me wrong I love the welcome that playa has offered, everyone seems to say its a groovy hamlet where live and let live (while drinking, eating, snorkeling, and diving) is the local creed! However there is a big difference between "we dont mind" and "we fully encourage your lifestyle and behavior!"
I have also read afew other things nude beach or gay beach is north of "The Reef Coco Beach" a big all inclusive. Ive heard any where between 15 and 40 mins walking north. I believe it to be more like 15-20 min walk(most reports are conflicting so this is a guesstimate at best!) I bet its a " you'll know it when you see it" sort of thing. The really great news is that there is a bar called playa 69, and it is a REAL gay bar owned by a gay couple. I think this is great news because, as you probably know, in any town or city if there is a bar- that is the place you can find out anything you want to know about the local flavor. We are going june 11-13 staying at aventura. I figure I've done all I can to paln a cool vacation, no matter what It is going to be a blast!! I can't wait!!! We usually go to Jamaica ( WoW talk about no gay vibe at all) everywhere we went people asked where is your ladies? In fact a few times it seemed down right threating! So playa will be like P-town compared to that! I plan to just roll with it, Do what I feel When I feel It! For sure gonna check out playa69 and the elusive beach. Hope I have mountains of good things to report when we return!!!! PM me anytime with questions or to say "hey". Bryan |

We should start typing "gaayyy" instead!
Well, at least you've explained the mystery and frustation over not getting any search response for "gay" - we were thinking it was some conspiracy with these ultra cool/nobody cares around here folks.
It just seems that after spending so much time to learn of 1 bar and 1 vague beach area - which you know A LOT of people are looking for - that playainfo might consider simply adding this info to their site. and, Chicago dude -- you go girl! and, to all moderators of this forum -- I mean no disrepect or bad attitude, cause I really loved reading all the posts that were necessary to finally find what I needed. But "James," really -- you gotta do something about your photo! (perhaps a nice introspective, past-the-camera-glance like Anna's). Last edited by dane; 05-22-2004 at 01:39 AM. |

As we thought after reading your post...If we all looked like Anna and you, Dane...we wouldn't have to hide behind hats, sunglasses and perhaps scuba masks...But of course I'm NOT speaking for James, OR for Anna for that matter...LOL! Last edited by cuffedlinks; 05-22-2004 at 09:45 AM. |

I don't need any more recognition than I already get.
As for links, we really don't link to anyone that doesn't link back to us already. I think Playa is pretty mixed and integrated, so you might not see so many exclusively gay places. We never fail to mention Playa69 or answer this type of question. |

update: I've realized that I can specify certain words that should be included in the search database, even though they are less than four characters. I just added "gay" among some others, so this should help out in this area. I believe I'll have to rebuild the database before this change takes effect with existing posts.

i was just searching the internet and came across a website that is dedicated to finding accomodations that are gay-friendly. I didn't search around much, but maybe they have something for Playa Del Carmen. That was a main key word in the search I was doing on google, it had nothing to do with gay, but i'm asuming they must have something for Playa if it came up! Any ways, the site is... www.gayres.com hope this helps Dane!!

For the record... I did a search for 'heterosexual' and all I came up with was the poll for whether Electra is a man or a woman!!! So, I did another search for 'sonic hot single heterosexual buff beach guy' and STILL nothing!! Phooey... this forum is LAME!! ![]() (ok... I AM a Sag, by nature ultra sarcastic OK???) |

"heterosexual" forum search
yeah, my heart bleeds for the straights seeking bar/beach advice on this sight, travel research is just so difficult for them - how do they manage? (at least "heterosexual" IS more than 3 letters). keep searching -- with luck maybe you'll find something, and feel at ease because in Playa you'll still be tolerated (by the locals, at least).

Update: the search function is now "gay" friendly (along with several other three letter words, like bar, ice, cat, oh, I forgot fag! I'll have to reindex again.)
FYI: the reason for the three letter word cut-off is to keep the database size controllable. Imagine having to keep track of each post that uses "and" and "the"? denisea helped me choose some worthy three letter words for search word ban exemption status (she is, after all, the forum goddess). if anyone needs any new ones, let me know. |
