OK we have a winner!!!!!!!!
I guess I will have to finish the rewrite of the last episode as I am fast running out of excuses. If you do want to get to Xaac from the street you can follow my GeoCache directions. However……be warned, in order to get to the beach you will be taking a trail across some private land and this may not be acceptable to you or the owners of the land. If you do decide to do this, be discrete and courteous. If there is no one around, who will know? If there are people working on the land perhaps it would be best to turn around and head back to the highway. Once you are on the beach you are back in the federal zone and legal again. The trail is fairly short, enjoy it while you can. |

The almost lost, or almost last episode.
The almost lost, or almost last episode.
OK, if your memory is as good as mine, you’ll probably have to reread the last pages to recap. At the point we left off, we dropped of the Susie at Pamul and continued on to Playa. Driving right by the Xaac GeoCache. Our next stop was S&H meats. That redish colored building on 1st (Calle Uno). This is one of the best places to buy something to barbeque. In fact they will even supply complete ready cooked meals to go. Handy if you are staying in a Playacar Villa and don’t want to cook that evening. And if you are linguistically challenged, they also speak English. To find this place, drive South on 1st (from Chedraui for example) and look for it on the left. They do have a tendency to only want to sell nice looking marbled Angus steak to the Playacar crowd. I ended up settling for that, I handed them every Peso I had and they gave me all the steak I could afford. Tyramania, Trish and barbj050 gave me some money when I came back to the truck with the meat, and so thanks to them I was solvent again. S&H meats is not on the Mapchick map and I only discovered the place as a result of specific instructions from our local hero James. Though I am still waiting to discover a rib eye steak in their inventory. I was hoping that Rose was not too bored waiting around the house. It was early evening by now and Rose had left for a hair appointment, at the place in the Chedraui entrance, that morning. And just in case you have read some of my other posts and are wondering why she went there. Xavier’s place was unfortunately not open on Sunday. We did get to have a few drinks with Xavier on the Saturday at La Ranita. Xavier had told the other guests around the table that he would rather be at our party than the other secret and very exclusive party in Playa on the same evening. I did not really expect to see Xavier at our party though he was most certainly invited. It is that kind of warm compliment that is typical of Xavier and one of the reasons he is so popular with people Playa. And so Rose was not the beneficiary of Xavier’s hairdressing skills the next day. If you are looking for best hairdresser in Playa, do a search, there are more details in other threads. After dropping off Barb, Tyra and Trish in town I got back to the house in the early evening, and Rose was not there. I called her on the cell phone. She was still at Chedraui having her hair done. Eight hours!! Amazing. ……then again, it is Chedraui, and that was no more amazing at their check out lines. Xavier’s shopping strategy for Chedraui is the same as mine. It takes two people to shop there. One to get the merchandise, and one to stand in line. By the time the shopping’s done, your line person is at the register and you are on your way. I think Xavier even mentioned, paying people to stand in line for him. Perhaps it was not Xavier but someone at our table at La Ranita mentioned that tactic. I’ve yet to try that but I’ve thought about it a lot (and believe me you there can be plenty of time to think in the Chedraui lines). If you where watching me type this you would have seen that I got completely distracted by the "need a job post". Glad I got my two pesos in before James shut it down. I always triple check my spelling on any thread likely to get locked. No fixing it tomorrow. Hopefully this one will still be open as I am sure it will need some touch up. However there will be one forum regular that will want it locked. Yes you know who you are……… Eventually Chedraui closed for the evening and Rose’s hair was done and with one short Taxi journey she was back at Villa Flamboyan. If she has to go back there for her hair I’ll recommend two sittings, I’m sure they must have rushed it to finish in one day. Oops……your hair looks great honey, don’t worry about a thing. Actually they did to a good job, I just can’t imagine why eight hours was necessary. As the sun set, I checked on my bbq and hung out on the balcony waiting for the guests to arrive. We were not going to see Anna or James that night as they were on the guest list for exclusive party at the secret location that everyone in town new about. I believe that I cleared up the quit my job thing earlier in this thread. But here is another recap. I had been working at a hell on earth job since the beginning of last year. The actual work was enjoyable, a challenge and a lot of fun. The problem was that I worked for a CEO who’s only people skills consisted of yelling at his staff in front of the entire company. Even to the point that his statements were so off base that the entire workforce as laughing behind his back when he left the room. That was my so called life for a year or so. My visits to Playa helped me survive. After a year of hell during the valley’s most severe slow down ever, things started to heat up again. Venture Capital money had started to flow again and I decided it was time to get back into the IPO scene. This new company is a great place to work, like so many other good Silicon Valley companies. We’ve recently demonstrated, HDTV, high speed internet and voice telephony all across a single twisted pair phone line. SBC has announced a 6 billion dollar investment to bring their fiber optic cables into residential areas and the so called “last mile” is that phone line into your house. And I’m lucky enough to work for the company that has demonstrated the silicon to go on either end of that phone line. We had a great IPO party a few weeks back and I can’t post or say anything that has not already been published and so we’ll get back to the Playa trip. ……meanwhile back at Villa Flamboyan. I forget who showed up at the house first, last and in the middle. Actually now I do remember Susie from Ohio showed up first. She forgot the fungus cookies, which is lucky for Mckinzie. More about that later. Then later Tyramania Trish and BarbJ050 showed up and McKinze managed to find his way in at about the same time. Sctx and Lil G also joined us. All the makings of a great party. I was especially looking forward to Scott’s arrival as I had sampled the Texas BBQ sauce that he had brought with him to Mexico. Steak or no steak I was looking forward to pouring a pint of that stuff over my food. I asked Scott about the sauce. Scott made a polite excuse. Later I realized that bottle of BBQ sauce had been promised to almost everyone in town. I think Steve at the Playa Maya ended up being the actual beneficiary. However Scott still made good, even without the sauce. Anyone who comes to one of our parties and places a bottle of Chinaco in the freezer is off to a very good start. And by the end of the evening, I didn’t remember any deal about no BBQ sauce. And in contrast to Scott, there is Mckinzie. What can I say……..he has been dreading this last episode. And now the truth has to come out. To be continued……………… Last edited by michaelholmes; 07-19-2004 at 01:11 AM.. |

hey, that was FOUR hours ago, I'm still waiting. Has dinner burned? Did the white laundry got stained with the one red sock? And more important, where is the rest of the story?
I didn't had a chance to read the begining of the story "live" as I was away from home (and computer) for almost a month, so I had to read the whole thing this night, lucky me, otherwise I would have had to hack into Michael's office computer to send him "finish your story on the PlayaInfo forum NOW" messages every 15 minutes. A couple of comments: -Next time you are driving from Escarcega to Chetumal, try to put an extra day in your schedule to visit Calakmul, is completely worth it. -The only good thing of Escarcega is that they have an ATM located in the Bancomer, in that part of the country is very, VERY difficult to find an ATM. Not a single one between Escarcega and Chetumal. And also, you can dine on Salbutes, they are good in the region. |
