Update

This evening I will be making another road trip, simply from one end of the State to the other to visit old friends.

IF Rose decides to drive part of the way, I will do some more typing en-route.

We have the gas problem and the sky (you really have to see this) still to cover on the next post or two.
Further ahead we have a party (I hope I can find away to capture some of best parts of the party and keep it PG13. I’ve already uploaded the best pictures to an alt.binaries.amateurs newsgroup. Just kidding…… you had to be there…...).
I have a lengthy street vendor story (but James, Anna and I have decided to against posting the full version, you can hear the complete story in full if you join us at Villa Flamboyan for Thanksgiving Dinner in November.) I’ll post a very abridged version of the street vendor story that is suitable for general consumption.
And then there is the fungus…..Yes you have to hear about the fungus. No preempting please, I want to tell my version.

And in response to the questions, the new job is much better than the old one. I’m back in Silicon Valley working hard to improve your Internet experience. One of these days I’ll move to Playa, but the internet still needs a little more help before I give up the corporate life.

Fungus?? I'm reasonably sure I've heard you referred to as a "fun guy" (plural of fungus, I believe) at some point, Mike...but "fungus"??

As to your crusade to improve the Internet, a noble ambition indeed. I think I've got something in one of my files on the subject of the Internet, but of course, I wouldn't dream of cluttering this serious thread with such frivolity, so watch the "Off Topic" site for that. H-m-m-m-m...where did I put that??

I am certainly enjoying the continuing saga of Mike and Rosa's road trip!

I suppose it's too soon to start the "who's in town for Thanksgiving?" thread. I hope to be able to hear the full version of the street vendor story as the Highlander and I will return for another visit at that time. Can we come to dinner? I tried to PM, but Michael Holmes is obviously a very popular guy because his mailbox is full.

I can't wait to hear more!

Rose looked up to see this.

The sun is shinning through what looks like a darkened area of the sky and is surrounded by one clearly visible halo. The clearly visible halo is also surrounded by another faint halo, and there is even faint evidence of a third when I zoom in on the 6 mega pixel image.

Neither of us had ever seen anything like this before. The halo fills the sky. The camera is on the widest zoom (36mm wide angle in 35mm equivalent terms).

We asked some locals about what we had seen. At the time we where not sure what we had witnessed, was it some kind of eclipse? The locals told us that this is not that uncommon, and that this means there will be no rain. As often is the case with the local gossip in Mexico there is often some truth to the story. And I don’t think it has rained in the area since that day.

Today’s quiz is simply this.
What did we see? I will continue after the correct answer is posted. I had thrown in a few clues elsewhere in the text and in at least one other thread.

Sorry, I don't think it is a sun dog.

And for Mave and others (e.g. Manitou and family) that will be in town for Thanksgiving, I have cleared a little space in my message box. I am already planning Thanksgiving dinner. I’ll post more on that subject during the summer. I guess we can start assembling a list of who will be in town and when. I am also considering a Holbox island road trip for the Tuesday(a Kite boarding and Photography safari).
