It would be more tough to take them to a shelter not knowing if they would be able to be adopted "togerther". You see so many stories like that. I wish I could adopt them all.

Thanks all, I just needed to vent some...
We thought a lot about this before we decided and one of the top criteria we had for leaving them was that they would stay together, cause they're kinda joined at the hip!!
We could never have taken them to a shelter, not knowing what would happen to them, and the chances were slim that eight-year-old dogs would get adopted, especially together! I know we did the right thing and they'll be just fine. And I think you're right, "visiting" them now would not be such a good idea... I'd just have to go through all the seperation anxiety over and over again... btw here they are:
As far as adopting another pet, well I'm not much of a cat person, but I just know I'm gonna be sorely tempted by Andy's dogs... although I don't think I'm gonna want a new dog for a while!
