I was hoping that someone would let a cat or two out of the bag and then it would be "KATIE BAR THE DOOR" on the trip report, you know? <SIGH> |

I've been delinquent!
:o Yes, I have to admit I've been delayed in finishing up this report. Please accept my humble apologies! There is more written, but just need to send it through the spell check a few more times to make sure there are no boo-boos, or should I say no-nos! And the trip is getting to the point where it intersects with MichaelHolmes, Susie in Ohio, sctx & LILG, and McKinzie so have to think really hard how to tell the story so as to be accepted by all of us!
Gee, now that I think about it, I probably should have posted the whole rest of the report over the weekend while Tyramania was predisposed with her company for the big concert! Oh well... coulda' woulda' shoulda'! Thanks for the encouragement... I've been re-inspired!

Last "Family" Day (Saturday 05-15-04)
Some of us – Tyra, Manda, Aaron, Tina, & I - had scheduled Anna’s tour to Coba for the day. It was wonderful! Anna was so attentive to the group, and her knowledge of the history and narration before, during, and after the ruins kept us entranced. And she’s such a sweetheart, too! (Thanks again for everything, Anna!). The young ones fearlessly started up the pyramid. Tyra & I were a little more hesitant.
difficult. I opted for the toddler scoot – a move that entailed sitting on my butt, and lowering myself with my feet & hands one step at a time. Not what you’d call graceful, but it got me to the bottom of the pyramid without incident, and I felt much more confident – I no longer have the agility of a goat, and I was really afraid of a tumble ! After a wonderful lunch at a small family-owned restaurant, we were off to swim in a cenote – I think it was named Cho-Ha. Since it was my first time to do the cenote-thing, I had nothing to compare it to, but it is definitely something I aim to do again. We entered what seemed to be a tiny hole in the earth and climbed down the stairs to a cave. There was a beautiful beam of sunlight coming through a hole in the roof of the cave… almost could be considered a religious experience. After swimming around in the cool waters and enjoying the heck out it, we loaded back into the van for our trip back into Playa. We stopped at one of the houses along the way that had lots of handicrafts for sale in front. One of the big draws was the pet spider monkey in the yard, which we all had to hold and play with. In addition to the gorgeous hand-woven hammocks & chairs, there were two of the cutest little girls with shy smiles that I had seen in a long time. When we had made our purchases and decided it was time to go, I thought my dreams of a grandchild were about to come true to some extent... Manda & Aaron couldn’t pull themselves away from the sweet little monkey. According to Manda, Cheetah the monkey got a little another dinner with the family. The rest of the group met us at our hotel, and we all loaded up into some taxis for a short ride to Las Mil y Un Alux, the restaurant in the cave. It was yet another awesome dining experience. One of our group left his back-pack (holding his asthma medication) in the taxi, and the management at the restaurant went waaay beyond the call to help him recover it. The belly dancer had a body to die for, and she kept everyone in the restaurant slack-jawed in admiration as she made her way around all the tables with her sensuous undulations and shimmies, enticing unwitting diners to stand and join in her dance. Then there came the lounge act… although not really to my personal taste, an experience none the less! It was shortly before 10:30, and everyone was close to finishing their dinner. ) Family-bonding time had hit its limit for the day, and I was quite ready to get the majority of them tucked away for the night.I had heard Tyra say something about La Ranita being on 10th between 5th and 10th, or was it 5th between 10th and 10th, or was it… I still didn’t quite understand how the streets worked…. And I had left my MapChick map on my kitchen counter in the fiasco of oversleeping the morning I left Austin… But how hard could it be to find her? So I started walking. Needless to say, I walked from almost one end of 5th to the other, and never once did I find a street sign announcing 10th. So I started back up 5th toward our casa, every once in a while meandering up an interesting looking street, hoping to find La Ranita. Never did find it, or Tyra, but was able to explore a bit of the town on my own and see many of the places mentioned on the forum. Not a bad night and I really enjoyed the exploration. My feet were beginning to tire, though, so made it back to our room and fell asleep almost before my head hit the pillow. Never even heard Tyra come in later. Tomorrow, the family was heading back to Texas, and the two sisters would get to start their vacation!

I can't believe I'm JUST NOW reading this! Mom mentioned it, but I never got around to reading the trip report....this is GREAT! I can' wait to hear about the rest of the trip after I actually left. Wonder if I'll get any better sides of the stories?
