Cameleon Marival/Omni Puerto Aventuras ???'s
Hi,
Just want to say, what a great site!! We have found everyone to be extremely friendly and really helpfull!! I will try to contribute as much as I can. My fiance and I are planning a Wedding in November 2004 in PDC. We are going to have a large crowd so we chose to stay in PDC and have the reception in Puerto Aventuras. The first place we chose was the Omni. Very beautiful and scenic, but they weren't too flexible with certain things. The second place was the Cameleon Marival. We were ready to book it, then read on a forum that it has recently changed owners. It is now the Catalonia. We were wondering if anyone has ANY more INFO on this. We are worried about quality, service and the prices changing. Please help us with any info, it would be greatly appreciated!! If anyone needs advice on hotels or wedding stuff I can discuss our experience so far...

We just returned from the Cameleon/Catalonia . . . in fact, there were two weddings held there during our stay . . . and one at a smaller hotel called La Serena across the lagoon. We only saw one actually taking place . . . they set up a grouping of draped chairs out on a rocky jetty overlooking the water. I think everyone in the vicinity stopped and watched and many took photos. It was very sweet. The hotel provided the couple with a way to play music . . . I saw a staff person out there with a player and speakers and we could hear it along the lagoon side. I don't know where the wedding party went after the ceremony though. There are two airconditioned more upscale restaurants at the Catalonia . . . and if those are your choice I would choose the Italian. The food was excellent, service was impecable and the atmosphere romantic. A nice deck outside was perfect for an after dinner kahlua and coffee. There is also a kind of secluded "beach-side" bar called the Looky Bar near a small grove of palm trees. Not too many people use it although it is fully staffed and stocked. That might be a good spot to gather with your group as you will be more to yourself than at any of the other spots. They also have a good sized "theatre" that might be good for a reception. It adjoins a very cute bar. A good sized bathroom there too. We were in there at night though, so I don't know what the view would be from there. I saw the Omni when we walked into Puerto Aventuras, but I didn't go in. Regarding the name change . . . I don't think it has made any difference other than a change in logos on the staff's shirts. Everything was great - staff was super friendly and helpful - service was great. So don't let the change in ownership worry you. I have a new phone number for the hotel that I will post - - I just need to dig it out. I also have the hotel map which I can scan for you if you need it.
