New hotel on Tulum beach road?

I'm new to the boards as a member, though I've been reading for a long time. I visit Playa a couple times a year.

I was just down in Tulum in May, and was wondering if anyone knew what that big hotel development right at the beach road junction (where the road from Tulum town hits the Boca Paila road) is going to be? One person I talked to said they'd heard it was a Riu project. Say it ain't so!

It was just a matter of time. Hate that.

It is there

Just got back from the Riviera Maya on Sunday. We were in Tulum several days and did see the new construction that was first mentioned by this thread. It looks like yet another AI, or at least, a large hotel. There were several large buildings viewable from the Tulum/Boca Paila road, right at the crossroads. Does anyone know what this development is?

One way to find out is to ask a Travel Agent specializing in AI vacations. He/She will know the name and the projected opening date.

tulum area spot

We happened upon an off the beaten road spot - there was a cenote to snorkel, a great restaurant owned by a Texan, houses and a couple of hotels....it was north of Tulum, but south of road back in to Oscar y Lalos----can anyone tell us where we were and the names of places to stay? Helo! Looking for that quiet, serene, economical spot.
Thanks!

Sounds like Tankah. The restaurant is Casa Cenote. Do a search (look in the dark blue bar above the forum) for Tankah and you'll find all kinds of information. It's serene, all right, but lodgings there can be a little pricey, but worth it.

I dont think it is an AI. It might be a new hotel called Mezzanine, upscale cabanas and unfortunately probably the future of Tulum. Check it out at www.mezzanine.com.mx This is not a very helpful website though, but you can kinda see what it looks like. .

I dont think it was associated with the mezzanine. I saw the mezz and its very small. A local that owned a Tulum resort, did say that that whomever was behind it was making progress that had to involve pay offs. I wandered onto the new resort till I saw workers. methinks AI for sure. Very large.
