I tend to be a vodka girl myself.... smirnoff if I am buying, grey goose if the bartender is buying! I love a good margarita made with a good tequilla but I am not an expert on the brands though after reading these threads I pay more attention to the name on the bottle. If it is a weekend at the beach I lean towards beer just because it is easier...

Bourbon - Never found one I like
Bumper:

I don't know what your tastes are but, having grown up in the beautiful Commonwealth of Kentucky let me make a couple suggestions. I have long been a fan of Maker's Mark bourbon...the regular stuff with the red wax on the bottle...which I can highly recommend...BUT...I have recently found something I may like even more (though more research is needed) and that is Buffalo Trace. If you can track down a bottle of that you might just like it. If you DON"T...I'd be more than glad to take the rest of the bottle off your hands.

and now for my favs:

Bourbon: Buffalo Trace or Maker's Mark bourbon on the rocks

Rum: Cap'n and Coke (also experiementing with Diet Coke w/Lime)

Gin: Tastes like Pine-Sol to me (maybe I'm drinking the cheap crap)

Beer: the list of the one's I DON'T like is is much shorter than the list of the ones I
I DO like.

Tequila: Just got a bottle of JQ 1800 Reposado and really like it but admittedly don't know much about tequila....yet.

I thought the same thing when I started drinking it, but it depends what you are mixing it with. I'd go with Bombay Sapphire or Beefeaters. Also make sure the bartender (or you) mixes your drink between two glasses or in a shaker (just a couple of light shakes will do).

I don't do Bourbon anymore, not since Eagle Rare 101 disappeared from the market place, but if I was forced to choke some down, it would be Makers Mark.... turned wifey onto that a few years ago and that is her call bourbon now... that is if there isn't a worthy Tequila or Vodka available... she's become quite the Tequila snob in the last 4 or 5 years

I'm not a big bourbon fan either, but I was introduced to one called '40 Creek'... gave some to a friend who swore by Makers, and he was impressed.

I had some at the last regatta, but I don't remember anyone but BigDave trying it... I personally like it... when there's no tequila or vodka...

There, there, it'll be okay...just go lie down for a while, and Lil' G can get a cool cloth for your forehead. As long as there's a divine, benevolent, power ruling the universe...there will be tequila.

Good News! Rare Eagle 101 is alive and well! It is just VERY difficult to find and probably pretty pricey. It is actually made by the Buffalo Trace Distillery (maker's of my new favorite sour mash poison).
