Let's talk 'bout drinkin'

There seems to be a coomon thread running through the threads. It involves references to, comments about and accolades concerning alcohol of the non-medicinal type. It, therefore, seems that a discussion concerning personal preferences and reasons therefore might make for a some interesting reading.

My 2 cents (American) worth: Rum, rum and more rum... Bring on the Bacardi White with Diet Pepsi...dump some more Appleton white or amber over those ice cubes... What? Hell no, I don't want none of that spiced **it! Look what it did to that weird captain's leg! One of my office shelves proudly displays a mug from the Ministry of Rum (on Culebra http://www.ministryofrum.com/ ). At Christmas the kitchen is filled with the smell of rum cakes baking--as the cook (that would be me) makes sure to sample (a lot) as the batter is prepared.

As a hot-air guy (as in a balloonists--before Bump or TX says something derogatory), champagne is a must do following each flight. Seaview Brut (Australian) and Tott's (USA) are my favorites because of costs and flavor. Of course, after the first few bottles Andre' --or anything that goes "pop" will do until Post-flight ceremonies are quite fun!

I've already mentioned that TLLL is dedicated to helping the Canadian economy by Canadian Hunter and Crown Royal.

That's it for me...What say you? And ewe? And u?

Bacardi white and diet pepsi - and I thought I was the only diet conscious rum drinker out there! Nice to see another connoisseur of the finer liquids. Not that I have anything against tequila (before I get lambasted on this one) but have never really aquired the taste for it.

I'm afraid this is just a tad redundant - having been adequately covered in another thread - but you did ask, so here we go.

My libation of choice is single malt Scotch Whiskey. Favourite brands, in descending order: Cardhu, Dalwhinnie, Glenmorangie, Balvenie, Strathisla, Dalmore, Singleton, Macallan. I'm not a complete purist though. I like mine on the rocks, which is an affront to of those "straight up" officianados.

Preferred Canadian - Alberta Springs Sippin' Whiskey

On the subject of rum, I admit to being somewhat of a dilettante. I've never particularly enjoyed the stuff, though we toured several distilleries as we travelled the Caribbean. Research with a wide circle of bartenders yielded the information that they felt - almost unanimously - the best rum anywhere is Mount Gay Extra Old, produced in Barbados. We visited the distillery and sampled it. The only way they would serve it was in a snifter, straight up. I have to say I was impressed. I now have it on my bar for those rum fanciers who appreciate the good stuff. If someone asks for it with a soda pop mix, they get a cold scowl and some other main stream brand. I've got about 6 brands of rum on my extensive bar.

Tequila - Don Julio Reposado

Gin - Beefeaters

Vodka - Smirnoff (no imagination)

Irish - Bushmills

Sour Mash - Jack (is there any other?)

Bourbon - Never found one I like

Cognac - Remy Martin

Bump,
I apologize for any redundancy. i admit, I forget to check previous threads. This doesn't mean I'm at risk of losing my Member status does it? It won't (hopefully) happen again.
You are correct about rum from Barbados--especially Mt. Gay. I, too, find it a wonderful "sipper". Spent one of my honeymoons in Barbados and was delighted to learn of the amber gold's existence.
I concur with the rest of your choices, although I have found some of the New Country's gins can be as good as those of the Mother Country.
Damn, now I'm thirsty and still have 4 more hours to go in my cubicle, plus a court appearance. Oh well, cheers anyway.

I also forgot to check capitalizations and tense (as well as tents and camping gear).

Finally a topic about me .

For an everyday drink is there anything better than Bacardi White with Cola? I personally enjoy mine with Caffeine free coke, not the Diet coke (don't like the taste of aspertame {sp?}).

I also like Captian Morgan's Spiced Rum.

Rum, ay there matey now you be speaking my language. A bit of the grog with a touch of the lime will keep the scurvy away. I favor the dark aged rums, especially in Mexico

An anajo dark Cuban (on the rocks)
Bacardi Solaro
Bacardi Anejo
then the white rums.

And I too believe if you are going to mix them with coke, it should be a diet coke. She who must be obeyed (The Mrs) concurs, but he doc has her on caffeine free.

Chinaco anejo chilled to +/- 36 degrees and served up iby a cute Texas girl in a heavy shot glass with one lime wedge
South of the Rio Grande:
