I have to go to New York for the next two weeks and decided to spent the next weekend in Boston. I have already booked a whale watching tour but as for the rest of the weekend I don't have any idea yet (have bought guides but didn't have time yet to have a look). Is there something special (maybe not known to tourist guides) worth to visit? What can you recommend and which areas should I better avoid?
Would be happy to get any suggestions. I will certainly not get bored if not but locals usually know their place and I only have saturday and half sunday so my time is limited too. Better to concentrate on the really important stuff! Thanks in advance. Andrea ![]() |

Boston??? Ok, listen carefully, What you need to do is rent a car and drive +/- 2800 kilometers Southwest.... I-95 South to I-30 West, turn South on I-35 in Dallas, continue for about 3 1/2 hours till you get to exit 200, pull into the Sac-N-Pac convienience store and give us a call and we'll take you "toobing" on the San Marcos River... just like in your message signature !!! Can't think of a better way to spend the day in Boston ![]() |

Well, then it would be better to fly as that would guarantee that I'd be back in the office in NY on monday morning...
Would really love to come to Texas but there is not enough time so I have to content myself with Boston... ![]() |

Curious on where you are staying in Boston? Fannuel Hall is always a great place to visit. Shopping and great places to eat. Could take a walk through the public gardens where the swan boats are and relive Make Way for Ducklings. The New England Aquarium or one of the museums may interest you. Boston can be a lot of fun. I was there last night to see the Red Sox.

We did use transportation last night. We used the subway which I didn't seem to mind. It was very packed do to the game. If your accustomed to using this kind of way to get around you'll do fine. There are plenty of taxi cabs everywhere you turn. Bunker Hill is beautiful. Public Gardens are pretty. There is the duck tour you can go on which brings you on land and water throughout the city. Use your same awareness you would in New York city. You can go up in the Prudential I believe it is and look over the whole city.

But you are right, I did that on-and-off thing in Madrid/Spain in March and it was a good opportunity to see the highlights of the city especially if you don't have much time.Erica, thanks, I will write that down before I go to Boston on friday evening. I don't have problems with using public transportation as I do that here all the time and in NY usually I use the metro too. Andrea |

Definitely go to Fanueil Hall. Make sure you get a "lobsta" salad sandwich, there is no better food in this world. I could spend the entire day here.
Have dinner at Legal Seafood. Go to the Red Light District. Well, maybe not without a bodyguard. Look for bodyguard at Fanueil Hall. Go to the top of the "Pru" (the Prudential Building) and take a look around. You used to be able to have drinks and dinner up there. Not sure if it's still open. Use the "T". That's the name for the subways in Bassston. There are "T" stops on just about every corner. Take a walk up and down Newbury Street. It's 1 street in from the Pru Building, which is on Boylston St. Lots of wonderful shops to spend your money in. Also lots of nifty little bars to have a drinkie in. One more street in from Newbury is Commonwealth Ave (this was my street), home of the Boston Common. Hit the park, ride in the swan boats. Great place to people watch. But pay attention....I was people watching but not paying attention to the people and got my nose broken by an off course frisbee thrown by a very large Jamaican man with dreadlocks. I told him everything was "OK mon" (but it wasn't really). :o Come back and tell us all about it. ![]() |

Good advice so far. The "Top of the Hub"[the pru bld.] does have a fabulous view,& has a Sunday Brunch for 38$pp,open Sun 10:30-9:30 p.m. They also have a bar
/lounge with the view & good drinks, went there for a bachelorette party not too long ago.I too love the water, boating, etc. If I had known you were coming you might've taken the train to Newburyport, & gone out to look for whales on my son's boat! I would love to meet you sometime.I live in the next town to the Cutter Family, Salisbury, just across the Merrimack river from Newburyport, very scenic and fun.We also have miles of white sand beach. Hope you have a great wk-end. ....GailLast edited by Softy57 : 06-17-2004 at 01:47 PM. Reason: spelling |
