Playa Maya or Riviera del Sol ?

We are considering staying at Playa Maya or Riv del Sol. Both sound good. Anybody stayed at either recently ? Any suggestions or info (pro or con) would be appreciated. We are very familiar with PDC as we have been going for 15+ years. We remember Tortilla Lucy ! We like quiet, spend alot of our time on the beach, snoozing and reading, and just being lazy. We also like to hang at the pool sometimes. Riv del Sol's pool looks better, but hard to tell. We will be there in July. Thanks.

We have booked a little over 2 weeks at the end of January with the Riviera del Sol because our favorite beach is Mamitas and I dive with Sealife. My wife can lay on the beach and when I get done diving I walk about 20 yards and join her. We also like the quiet area that the Riviera del Sol is in.

hi
we stayed at the r.del sol-hotel end of april 2004. nice place. great staff.
but I remeber it was really noisy there because they are building a new hotel? or whatever close to the r.del sol (at the entrance to mamita´s beach). it was also noisy some nights until 2 a.m., because of the (shit) music from the hotel club bananas (correct name?), also very close to the r.del sol.

We had the same noisy experience at Riviera del Sol in December, but there was no construction noise. The condo construction was still going on but we never heard it in the evenings. I think the techno-music-crap was coming from Club Bananas, too. But it was not so offensive to us that we wouldn't stay there again. The place was nice, the staff was great and you can't beat how close the place is to Mamitas. We'll be staying at Las Palmas condos in July, so I guess we may still hear the techno lullaby. But just like in December, we'll just drink lots of tequilla and won't hear a thing.

We spent the month of Jan. 2004 at the Riviera del Sol....best rooms for view are 201 & 301..has 2 balconies...one looking out to the Sea..& one looking onto to the pool. great staff. It was quiet then & best location to beach we thought, plus short walk to town.
We already booked the same room for the month of Jan. 2005.
Have a great time.

Hi, John[&]Amy, and thanks for the PM this morning. Sorry to you and others about the delays in responding recently, but you happened to send in your request not only just as the big storm was pounding us this past week/weekend but also as we were doing the final switches over to our wireless ISP and setting up a new long distance service. (Now just a buck a minute direct from your room phone to most countries in the world, folks! )

Anyway, to clarify on the pool point, and because people do ask: the Playa Maya pool is 45 feet long and 10–16 feet wide, for the record. It's a bit more than a "dip tub" (as someone referred to it in a not so nice online review elsewhere recently), but not really going to win any awards for expansiveness, either. Mostly it's frequented by those looking to cool off, have a drink, read or just escape the glare of the sun and/or the rough waves of the ocean and crowds on the beach. We recently added 2-3 new photos of it here, in fact, if you want to take a look. As I speak, workers are finishing the new surface of the sun deck that stretches out over it on one end, in fact. The new surface of the bridge has already been in place for a few weeks now. No more wood care issues here, which really has me smiling!

Getting to your message now...

Steve

p.s. Actually, I show 5 messages from you, but all within the past 24 hours, which happens to have been Sunday. So actually I'm not behind in responding to you, at least!

Playa Maya is my vote!

Just got back June 7th from 10 days in PDC . Spent the first 3 days at Shangri-La Caribe and the next 7 days at Playa Maya. The rooms were awesome (Deluxe Balcony) and the staff was outstanding in every way. As for the beach and pool, my wife, friend and I spent several of our 7 days at Playa Maya lounging on the beach or in the surf, and dipping in the pool. We were more interested in beach than pool, but the pool was very comfortable. In fact, Shangri-La Caribe's pools were too hot! Playa Maya's was great, very relaxing with plenty of room in my opinion. The only time the beach was truly busy was during the weekends, Sundays in particular, but this is the case throughout PDC. IMHO you can't go wrong with the Playa Maya. We are planning on returning to PDC and it will be at the Playa Maya.

Playa Maya

We stayed at the Playa Maya twice and are going back in March.
We really like the location on the beach. The rooms are a nice size and always spotless. The restaurant and bar are great also. But the best part is the people that work there. What a fun crew!

We were in Playa in Nov/Dec. 2003 and May 2004. We did not stay at Playa Maya, but spent alot of time in the bar. The staff were great!! Very personable and we had a great time. We looked at rooms for when we return in November. Looks great to me.

Hope to be there in November.
