Rainman & Mo’s Day 2 Trip Report...

Monday May 24: Mo’s Birthday

We did not get up until around 9am since we had a late night the day before. We went to breakfast had some eggs and that wonderful BACON that Karen (nerak936) is always bragging about. After breakfast we went back to our room and changed our clothes and went to the pool to lounge at the pool bar all day. We seen the black cat that hung out over at the Riu Yucatan that we seen an earlier post on, we also took some pictures of it. The cat is doing well but is pretty skinny. There was a really big Iguana running around the pool, but the people were trying to get to close to it so you could not get really good pictures of because it would not stay in one place too long. It was early and the bars were not open yet and the water was a little cold and every lounge chair already had a towel on it with very few people around. We of course got lucky and was able to get at least one lounge chair (lucky us). Rainman got out this spring form float that we brought from home. It’s a very a cool thing. It is compact and has a small outer ring and pillow that inflates in about 2 minutes with very little effort, the center is made of a mesh material. It does not look like it would hold up a normal sized person but it can actually hold up to 250 to 300lb person. I started floating in it and Rainman finally got in and got me a drink in my smiley face mug. He pushed me around the pool on my float and then pushed me over to the Jacuzzi, boy it feels great to feel the bubbles through the mesh in the float. Later on Rainman got me some fresh fruit as soon as they put it out and hand fed it to me. Boy what a way to spend a birthday.

We had lunch at the pool restaurant and later we got dressed and went into Playacar to the Internet café. After that we took a cab into PDC and had dinner at the ******. I asked for some Chicken Quesadias, well this being a Mexican restaurant they could not serve them since they were out of cheese. I ended up having to order chicken nuggets and french fries. By the way they were pretty good and the cost was not bad. The beer I had was Sol and it was really good and did not STINK like Corona does. Rainman had hot wings and he was not impressed at all. He wanted to go in the kitchen and show them how to cook real hot wings since that is all he does all week long at home, cook. If he did not cook here I/we would starve to death, literally!!! I hate to cook. After that we still had time before meeting up with the Playa Info group so we decided to go up into town and do some shopping which by the way turned out to be very interesting. At every point we seemed to get accosted by everybody who wanted us to buy something or come into their restaurant even if we said “No Gracious” they still were not happy with that. We had a couple of young ladies who wanted us to buy a bracelet (that I really did not want) for a $1 and all Rainman had on him was 50 pesos and she said that she did not have any change. I was going to give her some usd but all I had was some quarters and you no that was not going to go over to big. I told her if she could not break his pesos then she was not going to make a sale. Of course you know she pulled a wade out of her pocket immediately to make that sale. Then all the young girls were on us like white on rice and I had to keep repeating “No Gracious” and walk away. As we were walking Rainman seem to be the prime target because he likes to talk with everyone (remember he is the shy quiet type, so he says). One guy offered Rainman a high and told him “Would you like a high, no stems, no seeds”, he replied “No Gracious and said I am a police officer”. After that the guy smiled and immediately turned his head and walked away. Although Rainman lied, he is an ex-police officer, but it did work. He was approached earlier but they did not actually come right out with what they had to offer him. Rainman must look like a pothead, although I think he looks like a cop myself. My poor shoes looked like crap by the time we were done walking on the construction of calle 5th (we do have pictures of the construction and the crew if we ever get them posted). We finally stopped in the one shop that did not beg me to come in and buy something and got my mother a t-shirt.

After that we went back to the ****** and waited for the others to show up. We ordered a couple more Sols and noticed it was almost sunset. Just enjoyed the cool breeze and the beautiful view of the ocean and was just relaxing after the experience of the shopping hassle. A couple of flower shirt wearing guys showed up playing a guitar and a hand held drum. They asked if we wanted a song and we said yes. After they were done Rainman was going to give them a $1 propina and they said no $3 bucks. We laughed, although we did not care since it was very romantic and appropriate for my birthday. After that Andrea showed and found us almost immediately, although I am still not sure how she figured out it was us, maybe because we looked lost and needed the company. Andrea is just like her post, one of the most sweetest and intelligent people you would ever want to meet and we was so surprised how a German woman could speak such fluent English (better than Rainman). After noting that she spoke some German to us just to let us know that she really was German. Rainman was not sure what she said but could swear that she said a bad word. :o We chatted for a bit and then Cindyrella and her husband showed up and of course we found them by Rainman shouting out are you from the Playaforum? Then he went up front to smoke and found Nerak36 with her man and brought them to our table. Then we chatted for maybe an hour or two. Then Cindyrella and her husband left because they were so exhausted. Somewhere along this line some woman fell off the bar swing and somehow I missed that but everyone else seen it. Go figure I miss everything. We then proceeded to go to some of the other bars in town. We hit the Deseo and I stayed for about 2.3 minutes after I seen beds in the bar. This bar is on top of the roof with a pool and beds, no tables. We of course had to take pictures and then left. We then proceeded to head over to the Frida bar, which we seem to like very much. This building has no roof only a tree over your head. You can sit at the pool and drink and we did do that. I think we left there about 11:30pm and shared a cab with Andrea back to the resort town.

We got back to our hotel stopped at the bar filled up and then went to the room to watch a movie in Spanish (go figure). Then we crashed.

Sorry it took us so long to post this but we had quite a few things happen here that prevented us from completing this. We should have this crazy thing completed this week. I am sure you will appreciate that.

And I missed that girl falling too. Mo, remember she was at the back of us so we couldn't possibly see her fall (I don't even would have liked to see that )

The report is great and truthful Thanks. I still have to put the pics somewhere you can see them, but pls. be patient it might be september before I find the time (have to go back to New York for another three weeks next weekend).
