ED Royale in Nov-04
Greetings everyone
Sure am thrilled to have stumbled upon such a wonderful site. Hubby and I will be at the ED Royale in November and we can't wait.... We have some questions about the area and excursions etc. but will spend a day or two having a good read of all the posts so that I don't ask what's already been asked too often... A big one for us right now is.......we are looking for a dive trip...just a day excursion on this trip. The dilema is...the hubby has been diving forever, and I will be a brand-newbie. I think it will be a challenge to find something a newbie can handle without him being bored to tears. Any suggestions would be appreciated....I imagine we will grab a cab to Playa and go from there as the EDR is kinda off the beaten path shootingstar |

I was at EDR in May and absolutely loved it. It was our second trip there, and with the new renovations, it is 100% better. As for diving, my first trip I went with what the resort offered in their little packages....DON'T do that. It was a lot more expensive that what you can get on your own, and the diving is not really that great. The second time we were there, I went with the Abyss Dive Center. This was the best dive I have ever been on! The staff is very nice, helpful, and want you to have a good time. Both you and your husband would be fine to go together here, as I was only my 8th dive, and there were very aadvanced divers with me too. I felt very comfortable with them. I HIGHLY recommend diving with them. Prices are great too. If you can request a dive site, go to Momma Vina, it is a wreck dive in about 100 ft of water that is amazing!

James, administrator and forum co-flounder, is quite the diver and can give much more info on the folks at Abyss.... By the way - don't think I've seen a first post followed by a second first post...WELCOME both of you, to the forum... |

Thank you to ER DOC and Cuffedlinks for the reply. Nice to see that you both recommend Abyss. Have done a fair bit of research and knew of them. Perhaps they will be able to provide us with a day that meets our unique situation.
The hubby has been diving forever, in fact he was a commercial diver for many years and has been a diving instructor for probably over 20 years or so. Iwill do my certification and open waters here before we leave but that's about all. So there is the dilema. ER DOC - thanks for the tip about the Momma Vina, sounds really interesting, he would probably love it but... I think I will be restricted to about 50-60 ft max (can't remember the exact number) for the first little while and "wreck diving" is a seperate certification which I won't have time to get. When you live with the teacher you can't cheat on your exams... It does seem like the best plan is to avoid the "resort tours" and plan something yourself. thanks for your help, maybe others will jump in with their 2 cents...... counting the days till we can dip our toes in the water (we can't do that up here...they freeze and just snap off...even in August )shootingstar |
