Look what you started, Tappy!!! I love it!!!
Soon after I got my second cat (back in my "single" days), I can distinctly remember my dear cousin asking me, "You're not gonna end up being one of those crazy old ladies with, like, 25 cats, are you????" Problem is she wasn't totally joking!!! Suffice it to say that my Tiggy (daughter, age 11) and Eli (son, age 2) are more than enough for me to handle, and I don't plan on "having" any more kidzz!! They give me so many laughs and so much love....... I agree with Beach Cookie.....anyone who says cats are boring and aloof creatures just hasn't met any cool cats!!! Mine just add so much to my life! |

For those of you who may be new at co-habiting with cats (You'll note I didn't say "owners"), or may have no familiarity with other languages, I've attached some common cat phrases that may prove useful in communicating with your fur person.
CAT VOCABULARY Miaow - Feed me. Meeow - Pet me. Mrooww - I love you. Mioo-oo-oo - I am in love and must meet my betrothed outside beneath the hedge. Don’t wait up. Mrow - I feel like making noise. Row-miaw - The time has come to clean the litter box. Rrow-miaww - I have dealt with the condition of the cat box by shoveling the contents as far out of the box as is feasible. Miaowmiaow - Play with me. Miaowmioaw - Have you noticed the shortage of available cat toys in this room? Mioawmioaw - Since I can find nothing better to play with, I shall see what happens when I sharpen my claws on this handy piece of furniture. Raowwwww - I think I shall now spend an extended period of time licking the most private parts of my anatomy. Mrowwwww - (only heard from males) I am now recalling, with sorrow, that some of my private parts did not return with me from that visit to the veterinarian. Roww-maww - I am so glad to see that you have returned with both arms full of groceries. I will now rub myself against your legs and attempt to trip you as you walk towards the kitchen. Mmeww - I believe I have heard a burglar in the house. If you would care to go and beat him senseless, I shall be happy to keep your spot in the bed warm until your return. Gakk-ak-ak - My gastro-intestinal tract seems to have formed a hairball of monumental proportions. Wherever could this have come from? I shall deposit it here upon the carpeting for your closer examination. Mow - Snuggling is a good idea. Moww - Shedding is pretty good, too. Mowww! - I was enjoying snuggling and shedding in the warm, clean laundry until you so unceremoniously removed me Miaow! - I have discovered that, although one may be able to wedge his body through the gap behind the stove and into the drawer filled with pots and pans, the reverse path is somewhat more difficult to navigate. Mraakk! - Oh, small delectable bird, please come over here!! Sssrowww! - I believe that I have found a small squirrel. I shall now act terribly brave. Mmmmmm - If I lay in the sunshine for another week or so, I believe I shall be satisfied.

Kitty asked that I apologize for my tardiness in thanking all of you for the wonderfully accurate statements, all of which (for the most part) have been read to her. She hopes all of her Sisters will forgive her dad, 'cause he's been in court most of the week making money so she can continue to be pampered. Since her dad doesn't have sufficient expertise to direct you to a photo gallery of her, she asks that you e-mail him directly and he will respond with pictures. s/RAM for Kitty Manchester

I started with one cat, Arthur, ten years ago. Now I have six, because I moved into this apartment and there used to be a pet store across the street. I got Zelda, then Henry, then Oliver, and finally two tabby sisters, George and Elliot. They all sleep with me and my husband. We need to get a king-size bed, seriously. Fortunately for me, it's me that the kitties want to sleep by, and it's my husband that ends up getting shoved closer and closer to the edge of the bed throughout the night.
The store is closed now, which is both unfortunate (it was a good pet store, not a "puppy mill" type), and fortunate (I really had to stop bringing home kittens). |

This thread could go on forever!!!
Try this: What is the weirdest/strangest/oddest thing that your cat does? Here are mine: My Tiggy (now 11 year old tabby) loves my makeup remover. I use unscented Abolene cream (which dissolves waterproof mascara). Been using it for years. A few years ago Tiggy jumped upon the bathroom counter while I was doing my washup before bed. She headed straight for the open container of Abolene cream and starting licking away! Why? I have absolutely no idea. It's unscented, for pete's sake!! It's comparable to licking Vaseline! Yuk! Anyway... now it's a ritual. Every night when I wash up, she is THERE, front and center, waiting for her dose of makeup remover. I even have a special container just for her. She gets a few licks of it and is on her way. If anyone can explain THIS one, I'll be happy to listen!! I think my "son" Eli (my 2-year-old black/white American shorthair - he's gorgeous) is part mole. I have three hand-hooked rugs in my apartment (one of my hobbies), all on anti-skid mats on hardwood floors. Eli tunnels under the rugs between the rug and mat to nap, more often in the winter time, but he's been known to do it on a hot summer day too. It's fo funny to see a beautiful rug with a huge cat-lump underneath! My pet sitter told me she got sick and tired of straightening out my rugs when I was on vacation and finally decided to just leave them as is. So.... what strange things do your kidzz do??? |

My fourth oldest, Oliver, who is an orange and white shorthair, is craaaazy, always has been.
He can jump onto the top of doors. Also, we used to have our bikes in a bike rack in our sunroom, and he used to hang onto a handlebar with all four paws and twirl all the way around. And we used to (stupidly) have that bike rack under our bird cage (2 zebra finches lived there - Oedipus and Jocasta - now since departed). We awoke one morning to a crash. Oliver was hanging onto the bird cage with all four paws, swinging back and forth, and the other cats were standing underneath, watching him. It was hilarious! Luckily, the birds survived that one. |

Frosty ( a "mixed" Burmese), who I "stole", hmmmm I mean rescued, from a flea infested shack is the sweetest cat I have ever had. I tell him "Give mama a kiss and hug" and he actually does this.....(I am sure many of you are rolling your eyes and saying yeah she is a nutty cat lady). He also does all kinds of tricks, like sit up (for treats), roll on his back - just like a dog. He will also get in the shower if you turn on the water and has no fear of water (guess cause I bathed him so much when he was a kitty to get rid of all the fleas)
Also when my daughter plays her harp, Frosty and Snowball (my all white cat) will sit and listen to her, never move and just watch her like they are in a trance, and throw in a meow or two now and then if she should stop playing. Snowball is my daughters cat, we adopted her from the Shelter - she is very attached to my daughter and stays by my daughters side every where she goes...sleeps right in the doorway to her room EVERY night !!! (to keep Frosty out as he is a night time pest) Ya know - you can have a really crappy day at work, come home and those cats will make you smille ![]() |

As it is... ~Minz refuses to drink out of a bowl unless desperate. He insists on having the water in the bathroom sink turned on at a precise trickle for him to drink from (imagine the water bills when I'd go away for the weekend and forget to turn it off). ~He uses his paw to scoop out his dry cat food from the bowl, and then eats it from the floor (it's SO fun to step on the remnants in the dark). ~He chases and returns the plastic caps from sports water bottles. (More fun for feet in the dark.) ~And then, of course, there are the curled-up-in-a-ball in-the-sink naps. (Yes, I admit I'll brush my teeth in the kitchen so as not to bother him.) ~He likes to be carried like a baby, and wraps his paws around my neck to hold on. (I joke that he's been my "easy" child.) His brother (may he RIP) was the dumb one. He used to... ~Chase the reflection on the wall of the front door knob when it was opened. He would try to run up the wall to get it. ~Scoop his water out of the bowl with his paw and drink it from his cupped "hand." ~Endlessly chase the little laser light as he slammed into walls and got so dizzy going in circles that he couldn't stand up. ~Sleep in the laptop case which was about half his size. You know they sit around saying, "Oh you should have seen the stupid thing I got my human to do last night," don't you? |

Kitty cat toy shopping tip: Don't bother.
You know those white plastic pull-tabs they're putting on the cardboard half & half (or cream or soy milk) containers these days?? You know, the round ones with a kind of ring attached? Well, my 11-year-old thinks they are THE BEST toy ever invented!! Even though I've got probably $300 worth of cat toys in a basket in the living room, it just doesn't come close to those white pull-tab thingies!! In the entire time I've had her, I've never seen Tiggy come close to playing as vigously and enthusiastically as she does when she's batting around one of those things. David and I made a special trip to the store to buy a wooden yard stick....I mean a "magic stick"... which is used to "voila!" retreive these thingies from underneath the stove and refrigerator. Tig also likes to carry it around in her mouth and holler at the same time. Eli prefers the racquetball scenario.... he takes it into the shower stall and bounces it off the tile walls. They're certainly not boring, that's for sure. Try it.... toss one of those white pull-tab thingies on the floor for your cat the next time you get one. See what kitty does with it! |

Oliver, the orange and white one I already told you a story about, likes the rabbit-fur covered mice. I always feel guilty buying them because of the rabbit fur, but he just loves them so much. When I throw one on the floor, Oliver gets it in his mouth and at first he doesn't move. He rolls his eyes around to check out the other cats and goes, "Grrrrrrrr...urrrrrr......urrrrrr." Then he takes off with it, plays for a bit with it (unless another cat comes near and then he stops moving again and goes, "Grrrrrruurrrrr." Then he eats the tail off, and then he eats all of the fur off, and then it's just this little brown useless piece of plastic with eyes.

In 1985, when Keith and I first moved in together we got a cat from Animal Welfare and named her Ashley. She was a cool cat who definitely had a mind of her own.
In 1995, Keith and I decided to officially tie the knot on our 10 year anniversary of living in sin. When the week of our wedding finally arrived, Ashley had mysteriously disappeared. After much searching we found her stiff as a board in the bushes alongside the road near our house. Bummer.... could this be an omen? Two days later Jerry Garcia passed away. Yup, must be an omen. Things happen in threes, you know. So we can't possibly get married.... or at least that's what we told everyone. Being deadheads, some actually believed us. 7 years later, during the week of our wedding anniversary and on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death, a little gray tiger kitten appeared in our backyard. This was odd because our backyard has a stockade fence and our neighborhood is not one where you would normally find stray animals. Now this little kitten was skin and bones. He was busy foraging for bugs and eating them. When he wasn't, he was crying incessantly. So of course, we put food out for him. After a day or two he would actually come near us and eventually we were able to get him into the house. Before taking him to the vet to get checked out, we needed a name for him. After some discussion, we both agreed that given the circumstances of his appearance that his name should be Garcia. This is Garcia at 6 months. He is now 2 years old. Like his namesake he's is one cool cat. However, unlike his namesake, he can really move --- more like "Bing, Bing, Bing Ricochet Rabbit". |
