Sweden-Denmark
Anybody have a clue which bar in Playa would be the best bet to see Sweden beat Denmark on Tuesday?
Preferably a place with a high ceiling since there will be a great deal of jumping going on every time Henrik Larsson scores. By the way, Anna and James, your godis will be delivered to the place you mentioned which name I can´t remember at the moment. |

Sorry, Patrik. I don't have a clue!!!
My Swedish is thus: (spelled somewhat phonetically): Jag alskar dag (and I hardly even know you!!) Tak sa mika Var sa god Valkommon (easy one) Min var ar min och jag ar hans (from a tile my grandma gave me years ago) and perhaps a few swear words..... My father could understand a word here and there, but he said usually his parents only spoke Swedish when they didn't want him to understand!! |

From what I was told (and from what I have learned first-hand), Swedes rarely speak an untruth...... so I guess what you say must be true!! And from what I saw on my two-week bus tour of Sweden in '98, Swedish men defnitely rank very high in the good looks department! On the soccer front, when I was Gothenberg (Goteborg), the soccer finals had just taken place, and the Iranians had won. A friend and I were walking back to our hotel, and all over the place, people were driving around honking their horns and shouting "Iran! Iran! Iran!" over and over (I guess Goteborg has a very high Iranian immigrant population). It was the first and only time in my entire life that I was afraid to show that I was an American (since Iranian/American relations weren't exactly ideal). I told my pal to just keep his mouth shut (i.e. speak no English) and keep walking. I'll never forget it...... But on a brighter note, our two weeks in Sweden were glorious. Got to see meet many fabulous people and see awesome sights, including drunks passed out on a field the morning after Midsommer's Tag!! We had enjoyed a wonderful Maypole celebration the evening before. Two weeks with my father in his parents' home country which was one of the highlights of his life (and mine, so far!). So glad I could help him experience it!!

Sounds like an idea Anna, I´ll check it out when I get there, actually I´ve heard good things about that place.
Nice to hear that you had such good experiences from Sweden Karen. And I don´t think the iranis you met were that dangerous really, keeping in mind that most iranis living in Gothenburg do so because they don´t agree with their government and their ideas about western culture. Probably the drunken swedes lying in the grass were more of a threat

They didn't look too threatening that morning... too unconscious for that!! But then again, I saw them from the window of our ever-present tour bus, and my head was pounding a bit from my celebration the night before also - up the top of a mountain in Rattvik. |

OK - Darryl Hannah (the mermaid) is in the big tank in the secret lab. Two specialists are coming from Sweden, so Hanks/Candy sneak in as the Swedes. The lone army guard says he is from Sweden and says something to them in Swedish and Candy replies with something in Swedish. Hanks asks Candy when he learned Swedish, and Candy says, "Well, some of your best pornos come from Sweden, and after watching a few hundred, you pick up a few words here and there" (i may not have the quote exactly, but, i think it is close enough to convey the humor)

Thanks, Local!! (love your avatar, BTW...but for some reason it gives me a headache)
I don't recall that particular scene, but it certainly sounds like something John Candy would get to say!!! I'll have to see if I can rent that movie... been ages since I saw it last. Anything with Tom Hanks is worth seeing at least 4 times!! |
