Snorkel - Southern/USA info

Does any one have any good snorkel spots in the Southern USA besides the Florida Keys ???

Have been reading up on the snorkeling w/ the manatees in Florida -
Have any of you done this ????

What I read on one of the trip advertisements was something like this "two guides go with you on this excursion, one actually takes you around to look /swim/snorkel the manatees. The other guide stays in the boat and looks out for trouble" ?????
ok so what kind of "trouble" is he looking out for is what I want to know ???????? What else is swimming with these manatees ?????

(This is Florida so I am just wondering if it is anything like parts of Louisiana where you have alligators swimming around) - Because I am not going in if that is the case !! I know that sounds sort of silly but.........

They are most likely looking for the manatees in the rivers, so the second guide would be watching for alligators... hopefully he has something more than a long stick to fend them off... I'd pay extra for a guide w/ rifle

Been there...done it.

It was a lot of fun. The manatees were very sociable.

It was done in a harbor near Crystal River, FL. We also snorkeled a stretch of Crystal River and that was super, too.

Yes that is right where I am talking about - I have heard great things about it !!!

Was the water "clear"..???
Did you need a wet suit ???
and what are "they" looking for when they say "signs of trouble".... ????

Sharks...gators ??? I really dont know - but I sure want to ??????

Sharks dont scare me...but gators do !!!!!

Also have you done any snorkeling in the vortex springs ??? I heard that was really nice to ???
